AdaptingToGrace – Eileen Meyer – Underground River – A Poem – 24 August 2013

eileenmeyerI am an underground river

The center of my heart and feet are here

Yet I am able to stretch and reach

My roots, my arms, my hands

To your surface land

And here’s the weirdest thing

You are under the impression

That the tips of my fingers

Are me

I see the day that our feet

Will intertwine

And rejoice in the awareness of

The one seed –

The root and beginning

Buried in every living thing

One day soon

I feel

All of our beauty will be exposed

An underground river bubbling up

And out

Where all hearts

All feet

And even tips of fingers

Are finally set free
