Dana Mrkich – NSW Fires And Lunar Eclipse In Aries – 18 October 2013

Dana Colour Pic NewWith 100 fires burning in the state of New South Wales (Australia), and hundreds of homes lost in a single day, this is as close as you get to a mass experience of Lunar Eclipse in Aries (18/19 Oct).

Lunar Eclipses are traditionally about letting go, healing and transformation through emotional release, while Aries is a fire sign, known for courage and force. Watching the interviews on television, the predominant response from those who have just lost everything they owned has been “It’s just a house, it’s just stuff, we are so grateful we all got out alive.” This is not to diminish the loss of the life one creates with a home, or the emotional impact of such a loss, as will likely hit once this initial shock has passed. It is however characteristic of the general Australian attitude, that no matter what comes our way we get up, brush ourselves off, keep trucking forward and re-build. Some things just cannot be re-built, and so this is also a time to send prayers to those grieving the loss of livelihoods and cherished momentoes.  The fires came fast and furiously, with people barely having time to grab their hard drive or laptop (this is where the photos are these days) and their pets – and some not even able to get to that.

The loss experienced by these people today, and their attitude toward it, puts everything else in perspective.  Final year high school students were sitting for their final exams. One student said she’d worried and stressed out so much over these exams, but seeing many of her friends lose their homes “makes me think there are worse things out there (than an exam). 40 homes were lost in one street alone in the Blue Mountains, which seems to have been the worst affected area.

Everyone is also talking about the miracle that more lives weren’t lost. At the time of writing, one man lost his life trying to save his home, and our thoughts are with his family. It is truly a mark of just how phenomenal and dedicated our Fire Crews, Emergency Service workers and volunteers are at their job. They have done, and continue to do, everything in their power to warn people, get them to head to safety, then stay behind to try to save homes, often while their own homes are burning down. These people are courage personified.

So here we are, with destruction and devastation around us and on the television screens, yet the prevailing theme being expressed over and over again is one of gratitude and appreciation: for life and for the service being provided by others.

Most always, when a Lunar Eclipse influence hits you, it is an emotionally powerful experience. Often raw, sometimes painful, it always offers insight and healing in some way. The ultimate effects (and reasons) are often not known for months. There will be hundreds if not thousands of stories of people saying “Because the fires happened we did this….or we didn’t do that…..or I started doing something I never used to do….or I stopped doing something I should have stopped a long time ago.” On a wider level, questions will be asked about the impact of climate change on our weather and future weather events. On another level we have to respect the fact that we live amongst Nature, and Nature does what she does. She did it long before we were here, and will continue long after.

So a Lunar Eclipse can also be a time of surrender, and it sounds ‘all spiritual’ to say it, but a surrender to something greater and higher than us. We can’t control everything, and that is emotionally so confronting and scary, yet it’s the truth of our lives. Things happen. Sometimes we know why immediately, other times we’ll never know why until we pass on to the other side of the great veil. Yet if we take the attitude, like the people affected by these fires have, that there is always a gift, always something good that you can somehow find in each difficult experience, then that’s when we can truly allow ourselves to be opened by such experiences, and not become further closed by them.

Thinking of everyone affected by the fires, and by all difficult experiences right now. Prayers also to the fire crews, SES, fire service volunteers and all others that are working hard to protect lives and homes. Prayers also to the wildlife and all animals.
