Laura Bruno – Global Day Of Action – Flush The TPP – 3 December 2013

laura-of-the-rocksOK, I just had to share a giggle, because people are getting very creative and even humorous with their campaigns these days. Today is “Flush the TPP” day, and if you click here, you can find out why that dirty globalist corporate treaty deserves the flush. The call to action is metaphorical, but I would also like to urge people — if you feel so led — to do some actual flushing of the TPP. Whenever you flush your toilet, imagine all the corrupt, brutal, lowest-common-denominator safety and worker regulations, food insecurity, wage drops, and online censorship just swooshing away for treatment and purification.

I know it sounds weird, but I’ve had excellent results with “purging magick.” Too many unbelievable details to share here; I will just say, “Sometimes that stuff works!”

The site provides a map and list of all the December 3, 2013 hot spots for The International Day of Action Against Toxic Trade Agreements. If you don’t live in one of those locations, though, please consider the power of your very own toilet.

I have written about the TPP many times, but in case you’re wondering why I believe it’s such a big deal, you can click here to find the posts that mention it. Briefly, TPP would provide a corporate trump card to national, local and state sovereignty, allowing corporations to sue any legal entity for banning GMO foods, toxic chemicals, or demanding even basic food safety regulations. It would lessen worker rights, including the right to demand better conditions. Known as “NAFTA on steroids,” the TPP would be disastrous for an already imperiled US economy and environment. It would also allow for extreme internet censorship. Since negotiations have taken place secretly — even from Congress — and are being pushed for “fast track status,” all this information comes from leaks. Monsatan only knows what else is in there!

Well, that’s not quite true. Some other corporate monsters know, too, and “[t]he Obama administration is facing increasing scrutiny for the extreme secrecy surrounding negotiations around a sweeping new trade deal that could rewrite the nation’s laws on everything from healthcare and Internet freedom to food safety and the financial markets. The latest negotiations over the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) were recently held behind closed doors in Lima, Peru, but the Obama administration has rejected calls to release the current text. Even members of Congress have complained about being shut out of the negotiation process. Last year, a leaked chapter from the draft agreement outlined how the TPP would allow foreign corporations operating in the United States to appeal key regulations to an international tribunal. The body would have the power to override U.S. law and issue penalties for failure to comply with its rulings.” [source]

What’s a freedom and real food loving individual to do?

Flush that ____ away.
