The powers that were have and continue to get away with crimes and agendas that are against humanity’s wellbeing, but we don’t have to let their actions bring us down. The world around us is ridden with pain, suffering and cold-heartedness, but this doesn’t have to stop us from feeling its greatest joys and remembering that things aren’t so bad.

This is Slog chart of the week so far.

It helps explain why, although some investors see signs of recovery in Spain, they are actually signs of something else….yes, those empty banks that The Slog has been boffing on about for over two years now.

Housing booms are never good for an economy in my view. When the entire bloody economy has been historically based on a housing boom, it is a serious disaster. As the above chart shows, the bad loans total in Spain is plummeting because, um, the banks have been lending – literally – less than nothing. The actually percentage of bad debt is going through the roof.

This is not an economy emerging from anything except the frying pan. If the main sector of the economy lacks the rocket fuel to lift it out of depression orbit, then Spain is a rocket out of control and without engines. Rockets without engines, research suggests, do not good gliders make: the ball of fire beckons.

Mish / Mike Shedlock – US Household Debt Climbs By Most Since 2007, Mortgage Debt Leads The Way; Annually Student Debt And Autos Lead The Way – 18 February 2014

Given stagnant wages and higher taxes, the only way households can increase spending is to go further into debt.

The New York Fed quarterly report on Household Debt and Credit shows that is what happened.

Aggregate consumer debt increased in the fourth quarter by $241 billion, the largest quarter to quarter increase seen since the third quarter of 2007. As of December 31, 2013, total consumer indebtedness was $11. 52 trillion, up by 2.1% from its level in the third quarter of 2013. The four quarters ending on December 31, 2013 were the first since late 2008 to register an increase ($180 billion or 1.6%) in total debt outstanding. Nonetheless, overall consumer debt remains 9.1 % below its 2008Q3 peak of $12.68 trillion.

Chevron felt so bad about blowing up part of the small town of Bobtown, Pennsylvania with a deadly, days-long fracking fire that their “Community Outreach Team” sent out a sweet letter to terrified residents saying how bad they felt about the “incident” and included a gift coupon to Bobtown Pizza for – yes! – a free pizza. AND a free soda! Understandably, though, because their profits last year were down to about $21 billion, no toppings. Not from The Onion, which is the problem.

Lisa Gawlas – No Title, Just A Sharing! <3 And A Happy Return To Pisces <3 (Wink) – 18 February 2014

I wasn’t going to write a sharing this morning, but obviously, I had a change of heart, thanx to a video on my facebook wall by my son.  Less the video, more my son, both equally exquisite and opened a door of so much understanding within me…. instantly!  (By the way, the single “fish” representing Pisces here is purposeful. (smile)

On the 16th, just before my last scheduled appointment of the day, I felt it.  My throat started hurting, swelling, creating a minor cough.  All I could feel inside of myself is… NOT AGAIN!!
