350.org Launches Full-Court Press to Encourage Senators to Vote No on Keystone XL

Rallies at district offices today and tomorrow, phones are “ringing off the hook” at Senate offices

WASHINGTON – May 5 – 350.org is mobilizing its network of anti-pipeline activists across the country in a full court press to convince Senator Mark Udall, Senator Michael Bennet, Senator Tom Carper, Senator Bill Nelson and Senator Bob Casey to vote against any attempt to force President Obama to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

“We’re launching a full-court press to convince swing Senators to come out against the pipeline,” said 350.org Policy Director, Jason Kowalski. “Keystone XL is the top priority for our thousands of members in states from Florida to Colorado. They’re going to be on the phones and in the streets over the coming days to show Senators who are on-the-fence that they have the support they need to stand up to Big Oil and say no to this pipeline.”

350 is the red line for human beings, the most important number on the planet. The most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth. But solutions exist. All around the world, a movement is building to take on the climate crisis, to get humanity out of the danger zone and below 350. This movement is massive, it is diverse, and it is visionary. We are activists, scholars, and scientists. We are leaders in our businesses, our churches, our governments, and our schools. We are clean energy advocates, forward-thinking politicians, and fearless revolutionaries. And we are united around the world, driven to make our planet livable for all who come after us.
