Donetsk Bloodbath: Insider Video Shows Ukraine Helicopters Firing At Own Checkpoint – 23 May 2014

RT logoUkrainian helicopter gunships shot at a Ukrainian military checkpoint in Donetsk Region in the aftermath of a night battle, a video presumably shot by one of the soldiers indicates. Apparently, Kiev’s troops suffer from gross lack of communications.

The eight-minute video on YouTube was shot near the town of Volnovakha in Ukraine’s Donetsk Region, according to the description. It shows a group of armed uniformed men with Ukrainian army insignia and at least two others in civilian clothes taking cover behind a military truck.

UK To Hush Fracking Victims With $1.35Mn As Vast New Reserves Uncovered – 23 May 2014

RT logoThe UK government will attempt to buy off communities by increasing compensation for fracking operations after announcing plans to deny them the use of trespass laws. This comes just as several more billion barrels of oil were found in southern England.

Ministers will propose that 800,000 pounds (US$1,350,000) on average will be added on top of the existing program, under which a lump sum of 100,000 pounds ($168,620) and 1 percent of revenues are paid out to affected communities when a test well is turned on, British media report.

The new figure is a result of cumulative payments announced by the Department of Energy and Climate for lateral wells built around existing sites.

My first treasure to kick off the day is someone who attends and participates in every soul gym.  I start with that statement, just to reinforce when I say I can be slow on the uptake, my goodness I am so not kidding.

‘Not Another Broken Promise!’ Activists Across Globe Demand Guantanamo Closure – 23 May 2014

Activists around the world will join the Gitmo Global Day of Action, demanding the prison be closed and an end to the indefinite detention of its inmates. They say President Obama hasn’t fulfilled his promises as hunger strikes and force-feeding continue.

The campaign, coordinated by the Witness Against Torture group, along with other human rights organizations, are banding together for a Global Day of Action to Close Guantanamo and End Indefinite Detention.

The major demonstration is planned for Lafayette Square in front of the White House, Washington, DC. Similar rallies will take place in many US cities, including Chicago, New York and San Francisco. London (UK), Mexico City (Mexico), Munich (Germany), Sydney (Australia) and Toronto (Canada) are also joining the campaign.

Russia Will Work With Whoever Elected In Ukraine – Putin – 23 May 2014

RT logoThough Ukraine continues to plunge into chaos, Russia is ready to work with whoever is elected in the presidential elections on May 25, President Vladimir Putin said. He added that after the ballot all military actions must be stopped in the country.

“We are now working with these people who control the power, but after the elections we will work with newly-elected structures,” he said.

Putin said that Russia will respectively treat the results of presidential elections in Ukraine on Sunday.

Chinese Space Team Survives On Worm Diet For 105 Days – 23 May 2014

RT logoA Chinese team has emerged from a sealed capsule, in which they subsisted on mealworms and plants for over three months in a study designed to determine if the high-protein diet could be used in lengthy space travel.

On May 20 2014, the researchers exited ‘Moon Palace 1’, a 160-square-meter self-contained laboratory located in Beijing, after enduring a 105-day experiment intended to help China keep astronauts in outer space for extended periods of time.

The team was comprised of two women and one man from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA)
