Steve Lendman – Manufacturing Crisis Irresponsibly – 31 May 2014

StevelendmanIt’s longstanding US policy. Enemies are invented when none exist. War on terror duplicity continues.
It’s fake. It creates fear. It’s used to justify the unjustifiable. It’s to advance America’s imperium. One country after another is ravaged and destroyed.
Ukraine is in the eye of the storm. So is Syria. Iran’s turn awaits. Washington wants its sovereign independence eliminated.
It wants pro-Western stooge governance replacing it. Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful.
It has no military component. It never did. Claims otherwise are Big Lies. Sixteen US intelligence agencies once said so. No longer.

ZeroHedge – Insider Trading Bombshell: FBI/SEC Investigating Carl Icahn & Phil Mickelson – 31 May 2014

ZeroHedgeDid you hear the one about the Vegas gambler, the Pro golfer, and the Wall Street insider? Straight off the pages of some Hollywood script, the Wall Street Journal reports that Federal investigators are pursuing a major insider-trading probe involving finance, gambling and sports, examining the trading of investor Carl Icahn, golfer Phil Mickelson and Las Vegas bettor William “Billy” Walters. All three men have denied any investigations or “no comment”-ed about “well timed” stock trades in Clorox in 2011 – around the time Icahn made a $10.2bn bid for the company. Mr. Walters and Mr. Mickelson, 43, play golf together; and rather comedically, Mr. Icahn said he didn’t know who Mr. Mickelson was…?

Guest Post: U.S. Gasoline Consumption Plummets By Nearly 75% – 31 May 2014

ZeroHedgeSubmitted by Jeff Nielsen via BullionBullsCanada blog,

Regular readers are familiar with my narratives on the U.S. Greater Depression, and (in particular) some of the government’s own charts which depict this economic meltdown most vividly. The collapse in the “civilian participation rate” (the number of people working in the economy) and the “velocity of money” (the heartbeat of the economy) indicate an economy which is not merely in decline, but rather is being sucked downward in a terminal (and accelerating) death-spiral.

ZeroHedge – Couple Fined $746 For The Crime Of Feeding Homeless People In Florida Park – 31 May 2014

SubmZeroHedgeitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

It is a well known historical trend that as discontent and dissent spread within a society, the power structure will look to demonize unpopular or weak minorities in order to deflect frustrations away from the true culprit, the power structure itself. Many feared in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 that Muslims would serve as such a scapegoat, and indeed in many ways this occurred, although not to the extent that many feared. In my opinion, it is homeless people that are being increasingly demonized and treated as subhuman. I think that if we want to see how the state and crony corporate status quo will treat everyone in the future, all you have to do is look at the current “war on the homeless.”

Ann Albers – Messages From Ann And The Angels – 31 May 2014

My dear friends, we love you so very much,

Rejoice when you find things within yourself that you think are less than perfect, less than loving, less than beautiful! Rejoice because now you have found areas in your spirit that are in need of love! No longer are they lurking in the darkness controlling you quietly and subtly. Instead they are coming to the surface saying to you, “Look at me! Love me! Transform me!” Continue reading

CommonDreams – This Is Not A War Zone – 31 May 2014

common-dreamsThis Is Not A War Zone

by Abby Zimet

This week marks the fourth anniversary of the killing of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas, an undocumented immigrant, by border police who have yet to be held accountable. This week also saw protests over the assault of an Asian-American woman by Chicago police, the assault – smashing through a window for “talking smart” – of a handcuffed black 14-year-old boy by NYPD, and the third recent killing by Salinas police of a Hispanic man wielding garden shears – because he was a gardener. U.S. police, increasingly armed with leftover hardware designed for use on foreign battlefields, kill an estimated 500 innocent people a year; since 9/11, that total has reached an estimated 5,000, or more than those killed in the Iraq War. A powerful short film by Charles Shaw, a Bay Area activist who runs the The Exile Nation Project documenting the costs of the so-called War on Drugs, examines what’s wrong with that picture.

Bill to Curb “Panic Defense” Passes Assembly

SACRAMENTO – May 30 – The California Assembly passed AB 2501, a bill authored by Assemblymember Susan Bonilla that is designed to curb the so-called “panic defense” by making it clear that a defendant’s discovery of a victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity is not sufficient provocation to reduce a charge of murder to manslaughter. The bill, which is co-sponsored by Equality California and Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, passed by a bipartisan vote of 50-18. Continue reading
