Genetically Modified ‘Super Banana’ To Be Tested On Americans – 16 June 2014

RT logoA vitamin-enhanced ‘super-banana’ developed by scientists is to be tested on humans. The trials are to take place in the US over a six-week period. Researchers aim to start growing the fruit in Uganda by 2020.

The bananas are ‘super’ because they have been genetically enhanced to have increased levels of vitamin A – a deficiency of which can be fatal.

Hundreds of thousands die annually worldwide from vitamin A deficiencies, while many others go blind, the project’s leader told AFP.

Desperate Times: Kerry Says US Ready To Turn To Iran, Drone Strikes, To Fight ISIS – 16 June 2014

RT logoUS Secretary of State John Kerry says that Washington is ready to use radical measures to halt the ISIS offensive in Iraq – including enlisting Iran’s help and launching air strikes.

“We’re open to discussions if there is something constructive that can be contributed by Iran, if Iran is prepared to do something that is going to respect the integrity and sovereignty of Iraq,” the diplomat told Yahoo News on Monday when questioned about joining forces with Iran, which enjoys religious ties with the embattled government in Baghdad.

But Kerry warned that the US should “see what Iran might or might not be willing to do before we start making any pronouncements.”

Net Neutrality Fight Moves To Mobile Phones – 16 June 2014

RT logoThe realm of mobile internet is currently unaccounted for in the Federal Communication Commission’s most recent effort to rewrite the rules of net neutrality rules, but industry lobbyists in the United States say that could soon change.

Critics have until September 10 to petition the FCC and weigh in on the proposal currently being considered by the agency that was written by Chairman Tom Wheeler and contains provisions that may allow Internet Service Providers to prioritize some web traffic over others.

According to a report published by Reuters over the weekend, big tech firms and consumer advocates alike are asking the FCC to widen that proposal to include new rules for the mobile internet.
