Down Under Data Dump: Australian Police Track Mobile Phones The NSA Way – 7 July 2014

RT logoAustralian law-enforcement has been exposed scooping metadata from thousands of mobile phones of ordinary citizens, using the same kind of equipment and methods previously attributed to US police and intelligence agencies, like the NSA and FBI.

A US-invented technique dubbed ‘tower dump’ is now enabling Australian police to learn the exact location, established contacts and duration of calls of a chosen mobile device (and its owner) over a certain period of time, Fairfax Media reported.

A ‘tower dump’ receives data from multiple towers all mobile providers using them, thus collecting information on countless mobile phones.

“It’s another example where [agencies] are collecting the entire haystack in order to find the needle,” Greens Party spokesman for communications Scott Ludlam told Fairfax in an interview. Senator Ludlam confirmed that this is the first known case of tower dumps practice in Australia.

Wes Annac – The Spirit World Chronicles: The Titanic Disaster – Part 1/2 – 7 July 2014

wes-annac-300x229Written by Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

The sinking of the Titanic was one of the worst and most publicized disasters in American history, and needless to say, a lot of people lost their lives when it sank.

Those of us who know that death isn’t the end of life can take solace in the fact that those who ‘lost their lives’ are more alive than ever in another state of consciousness, but this doesn’t subtract from the devastating nature of this tragedy. Continue reading

France Lashes Out Against US Dollar, Calls For ‘Rebalancing’ Of World Currencies – 7 july 2014

RT logoThe French government wants to break the monopoly the dollar has on international transactions after the country’s largest bank, BNP Paribas, was slapped with a record $9 billion fine and a 1-year dollar trading ban.

Michel Sapin, the French finance minister, called for a “rebalancing” of the currencies used for global payments, saying the BNP Paribas case should “make us realize the necessity of using a variety of currencies” the Financial Times reports.

“We [Europeans] are selling to ourselves in dollars, for instance when we sell planes. Is that necessary? I don’t think so. I think a rebalancing is possible and necessary, not just regarding the euro, but also for the big currencies of the emerging countries, which account for more and more of global trade,” the finance minister told the FT at a conference over the weekend.

Russia Mobilizing UN Support For A Peaceful Settlement In Ukraine – 7 July 2014

RT logoAuthor: Dr Alexander Yakovenko, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Deputy foreign minister (2005-2011).

The situation in Ukraine was a priority of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in June, as Russia was presiding over its proceedings.

Although this issue is still treated by some members in a one-sided manner, Russia was able to mobilize UN support for a peaceful settlement of the protracted internal political crisis in Ukraine. We managed to draw the attention of UN humanitarian agencies to the dire situation in the eastern regions of the country. Without immediate de-escalation of the situation and the cessation of all hostilities a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe cannot be avoided.

The Presidency proposed two draft resolutions on Ukraine, based on a common philosophy, namely to put an end to violence, to implement the Geneva Statement of April 17 and the “roadmap” proposed by the Swiss Chairmanship of the OSCE. Unfortunately, our repeated efforts to find a common approach met a strong counter-reaction from our colleagues. We were also surprised by the cynical stance taken by a number of delegations not to allow the UNSC to condemn the attack on the Russian Embassy in Kiev. The failure to respond to such an incident is an unprecedented case in the practice of the Security Council.

John Ward – The Truth About Investor Confidence: The Media Are Ignoring It, But Investors Are Losing It – 7 July 2014

JohnWThe biggest banking group in central/eastern Europe announces a whopping loss (entirely stress-test related) that makes a nonsense of all previous analysis of its outlook and safety. Hold it up to the light, not a main-media article about it in sight.

I don’t, on the whole, buy into MSM conspiracy theories to explain this vacuum where information should be. Having worked with City journalists over three decades, it has long been my opinion that they are (with a few notable exceptions) process merchants who are rarely thorough, lazy for much of the time, and often pissed. Most of the players in this soi-disant technical area of life have the technical skills and insight of a tree-sloth, and denial of everything beyond the predictable is one of only two gears they possess. The other one is ‘I always knew this was going to happen’…..after the event. Continue reading

Italians Defy Pope, Take Church Procession To Mafia Boss’ House – 7 July 2014

RT logoThe Vatican might have denounced the mafia, but common Italians seem unconvinced. A church procession in an Italian town diverted from its normal route to pay tribute to a local Mafioso under house arrest.

Pope Francis ‘excommunicates’ Italian mafia

What happened was “deplorable and disgusting,” Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said on Sunday. The official praised the three policemen who refused to take part in last week’s scandalous procession in the Calabrian town of Oppido Mamertina, considered a stronghold of the ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate.
