Privacy Concerns? UK Police Test ‘Faster-Than-Ever’ Facial Recognition Software – 16 July 2014

RT logoFacial recognition surveillance software being tested by British cops that allows “faster than ever” data searching and tracking of subjects is raising concerns among privacy activists.

NeoFace software analyses dozens of facial features from digital CCTV images or police body cameras and matching them with the 90,000 photos stored on Leicestershire Police’s database, which had become the first unit in the UK to test it.

Processing takes a matter of seconds, eliminating the need for officers to spend hours manually searching for possible matches.

The reactors at Sendai power plant in Kagoshima Prefecture are two of 19 which Japanese electric utilities seek to restart and have applied for permission from the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA).

Japan shut down all of its nuclear reactors in the wake of the March 2011 quake and tsunami, which caused the Fukushima Daiichi plant disaster.

ZeroHedge – A Shocking First: Mainstream Media Rushes To Defend Dollar Reserve Status – 16 July 2014

ZeroHedgeOne can’t help but wonder just how concerned the powers that be are becoming when such an esteemed mainstream media outlet as Bloomberg News would deem fit to defend the almighty US Dollar. “There are always people who say the dollar is going to be replaced, but it hasn’t happened,” chides one strategist (clearly forgetting that nothing lasts forever). As growing concerns of “exorbitant privilege” spread from the usual anti-imperialist foes (Russia and China’s de-dollarization) to close allies like France and now to the world’s growth engine – BRICS, it seems defending what was previously unquestionable itself should be grounds for alarm…
