Printing Solar Panels In The Backyard – 25 July 2014

Uploaded on 21 September 2012  by SciFri Imagine what you might do if you could print your own solar panels. That’s kind of the dream behind Shawn Frayne and Alex Hornstein’s Solar Pocket Factory — although they see it more as the “microbrewery” of panel production rather than a tool for everyone’s garage. With over $70,000 of backing from a successful Kickstarter campaign, the inventors are now working on refining the prototype. If all goes well, by April they’ll have a machine that can spit out a micro solar panel every few seconds. In the meantime, Frayne stopped by Flora Lichtman’s backyard with a few pieces of the prototype to explain how the mini-factory will work.

Well, socialist France for one which moments ago announced that total jobless rose from 3.389 million to 3.398 million, a new record high. Surprisingly, while the year-over-year unemployment change for people under 25 declined by 3.1%, it was workers 25-49 which saw a material 3.3% increase in joblessness, but it was workers aged 50 and older that saw a veritable surge in unemployment, rising by 11.5% from a year ago. Surely, just like in the US, this is due to young people retiring in droves.

ZeroHedge – Dutch Send 40 Unarmed Military Police “Forensic Experts” To MH17 Crash Site – 25 July 2014

In an effort to make the MH17 crash site safer, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced that he will be sending 40 unarmed military police. As AP reports, the military police will help the investigators (along with forensic experts) “to look for remaining remains and personal belongings” and “to try to piece together exactly what happened.” While pro-Russian separatists have ensured the site is a safe place for the Dutch investigators (who have been given the lead role since Holland was so hard hit), Rutte acknowledged that it “remains a risky place to work,” and “will constantly reassess the situation.”

Dana Mrkich – Grief and Loss Opening Our Hearts – 25 July 2014

From Wednesday 23 July:

Today was a big heart day filled with love, loss and grief. On our walk this morning we passed the local school. Parents and children were gathered with colourful balloons and flowers to celebrate the life of their beloved teacher, who lost her life on MH17 last week. Not long after I heard the sad news that my cousin-in-law’s beautiful mum had passed. The closeness she shares with her sisters reminds me of the relationship I have with my own sisters, and the experience we had of losing our mum 12 years ago. 

There is something about death that awakens you to life in a whole new way. Grief breaks the heart…many times breaking it open in a way it never would have otherwise. 

On days like this I wish we could have an annual pass to see our loved ones, just for a hug. On days like this I think they are with us, closer than ever. xxx
