Obama Considering Immigration Reform With Executive Actions, Congress Readies To Sue Him – 6 August 2014

US President Barack Obama is reportedly considering options to move on immigration reform via executive action despite protests from disapproving members of Congress.

The Obama administration has offered little in the way of details as a review of potential options by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security continues. But according to The Washington Post, the Obama administration is considering “temporary relief for law-abiding undocumented immigrants who are closely related to U.S. citizens or those who have lived in the country a certain number of years.” As many as five million migrants could be affected by such a move.

The executive actions would constitute Obama’s boldest second-term action in the face of congressional gridlock, observers say. Though the Obama administration has deported an unprecedented 400,000 undocumented immigrants per year, the ongoing crisis along the US-Mexico border has become unavoidable, prompting a showdown between the White House and political opponents on Capitol Hill over presidential power.

UK Energy Crooks To Be Jailed For Misconduct, Govt. Proposes – 6 August 2014

Energy producers could face jail time if they are caught price fixing, under a new government plan to protect consumers.

The proposals, set out by Energy Secretary Ed Davey would make manipulating the energy market a criminal offence, and would allow energy regulators to prosecute individuals they suspect of artificially setting gas and electricity rates.

Currently, energy companies can only be fined if they are caught rigging the market.

“Manipulating the energy market is absolutely unacceptable, and these proposals provide a much stronger deterrent – more in line with the approach taken in the financial markets,” said Davey.

So many people had similar experiences including: phones calling people on their own, radio’s turning off then turning on again, an earthquake in South Africa that some people in a room felt while others felt nothing, people almost driving into things as if they momentarily forgot how to drive (I’m included in that lot!), people walking into glass doors, lots of heart flutters, palpitations and adrenalin rushes as if something big is happening or about to happen, major releases of old karmic energy and unexpected healing moments/experiences as if everyone got a huge ‘flush’, heightened synchronicities, sudden clarity about possibilities or paths forward, and a feeling of being re-booted.

Putin Bans Agricultural Imports From Sanctioning Countries For 1 Year – 6 August 2014

A one-year ban has been imposed on certain agricultural produce, foods and raw materials from countries that have sanctioned Russia. A law on economic measures to protect the country’s security has been signed by President Putin.

The decree “on the use of specific economic measures” has been signed in response to sanctions imposed on Russia by a number of states over the Ukrainian crisis, the Kremlin said on its website.

While the law comes into force immediately, the government has been tasked to come up with a concrete list of imports to be banned.

Farmers, Environmental Groups Defend Moratorium of GMO Crops on Hawai‘i’s Big Island

Groups seek to intervene as biotech firms attempt to roll back regulations on genetically engineered crops

HONOLULU, Hawaii – A coalition of local farmers and environmental groups last week filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit to defend a Hawai‘i County ordinance that imposes a moratorium on the expansion of genetically engineered (GE) crops on the Big Island. On Aug. 1, Center for Food Safety (CFS), and three Hawai‘i Island farmers asked the court permission to join as defendants in a biotech industry lawsuit challenging the County of Hawai‘i’s Ordinance 13-121. The ordinance regulates GE organisms to prevent their environmental and economic harms, such as contamination of organic and conventional crops and wild plants and associated pesticide use. The coalition is jointly represented by counsel from CFS and Earthjustice.
