Lucas – A Poem – Mother – 19 August 2014

Logo Lucas_square_wordsFeeling the warm water floating around you
Filtering the sounds of heart and nourishment
Safe within before being unleashed to the world
Opening up to the light and a push outwards.

Feeling the warm chest and nourished with milk
Filtering the sounds and light of the day
Safe with mom in the turmoil around.
Opening up to a facial recognition.

Feeling the warmth at home with a cup of tea.
Filtering the new experience at the kitchen table.
Safe with telling your stories while being fed.
Opening up to the wonders of life been given.

Feeling the warmth of caring al your life.
Filtering the things learned and remembered
Safe with seeing the example shown to you
Opening up to the fact of growing up.

Feeling the fading warmth of the body your holding
Filtering a life that is given its last in your arms.
Safe with you passing it on and being you.
Opening up to the light a life cycle ending.

jon7Two years ago, I wrote about the origins of Facebook. The company had gone public with its IPO, which was tanking badly.

Here are key excerpts from the article:

“But now the Facebook stock has tanked. On Friday, August 17, [2012] it weighed in at half its initial IPO price. For the first time since the IPO, venture-capital backers were legally permitted to sell off their shares, and some did, at a loss.” Continue reading

Steve Lendman – Police Brutality in America – 19 August 2014

StevelendmanJustice in America is a four-letter word. Killer cops mock it. Nearly always with impunity.

A badge lets them brutalize and kill. Blacks, Latinos and ethnic minorities suffer most. They’re targets of choice.

The ACLU calls Ferguson, MO “Everytown, USA.” Police brutality occurs multiple times daily across America.

In big cities. In small ones. In urban areas. In rural ones. Militarized policed make their own rules. They operate extrajudicially. Continue reading

Suspect Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting In St. Louis Near Ferguson – 19 August 2014

RT logoA 23-year-old African-American man was shot and killed by St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers midday on Tuesday, less than four miles from the protests in Ferguson. The man was brandishing a knife, witnesses said.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson, the man entered a convenience store and stole two energy drinks. The store proprietor told him to stop, but he walked out. He later returned, stole a package of muffins, and walked back out. The store owner walked out and asked him to pay, at which point, he threw the items on the ground. Both the store owner and a local alderwoman called police.

A pair of officers arrived to see the man acting erratically, grabbing his waistband and holding a knife. The police got out of their car, and gave verbal commands for the man to drop the knife, which he was brandishing with an overhand grip “in an aggressive manner,” Dotson continued. He then approached the officers.

Four Indicted In Feb. Recall Of 8.7 Million Pounds Of Contaminated Beef – 19 August 2014

RT logoFour people from the slaughterhouse at the center of a massive beef recall in February have been indicted for purposely allowing diseased cattle into its processed meat and misleading health inspectors.

Federal prosecutors on Monday this week claimed the owners of Rancho Feeding Corp., a Northern California beef processing plant, schemed with employees to butcher about 79 cows with skin cancer of the eye rather than stopping plant operations during inspector lunch breaks. The government also said that plant workers swapped the heads of diseased cattle with heads of healthy cows to hide them from inspectors.

The company’s co-owners, Jesse Amaral, Jr. and Robert Singleton, were indicted, along with yardman Eugene Corda and foreman Felix Cabrera. Amaral and the two employees were charged with 11 felony counts, including distribution of adulterated and misbranded meat, mail fraud and conspiracy. Singleton was charged with only one count of distributing adulterated, misbranded and uninspected meat.
