Air France Strike: Massive Flight Disruptions, Could Cost Up To $19Mn – 16 September 2014

Up to 60 percent of Air France flights have been canceled as the company’s pilots began a week-long strike over the cuts. The same level of groundings is expected until the weekend.

“Close to 600,000 texts and messages have been sent to inform customers due to travel on Tuesday individually and in real time. If the strike action continues beyond 16 September, the flight schedule will be adjusted accordingly. Customers will be informed of the potential impact the day before departure. However there may be other disruption and delays,” the company’s official statement said.

The French company’s pilots express their anger at the Air France’s plans to expand the low-cost flights of Transavia brand, establishing foreign bases – and thus saving about $1.3 billion.

The union also stressed they were ready to extend the strike after the failed weekend talks on the situation.

US, NATO Policies Push World To Brink Of New Cold War – Duma Speaker – 16 September 2014

The Chairman of the State Duma has described as “cynical and irresponsible” steps taken by the United States and its allies which will result in a renewal of the Cold War that has already become a modern day reality.

Sergey Naryshkin was speaking at the opening of the Lower House’s fall session and said that the international situation had become much more tense in a very short period of time. “The long awaited ceasefire in the Donetsk and Lugansk republics has stopped the large-scale bloodshed for a while, but crisis and standoff continue in Ukraine,” the top Russian MP emphasized.

Naryshkin also noted in his speech that the chaos in the center of Europe has not cooled the belligerent moods of those who provoked it six months ago. He pointed at the recent NATO summit as one of the factors that led to the tension.

Satanic Temple To Distribute Materials To School Children In Florida – 16 September 2014

The Satanic Temple has announced that it will provide pamphlets on Satanism to students in Florida, following the school board’s decision permitting the distribution of religious materials.

Among the materials that are set to be distributed are pamphlets on the philosophy, practice of Satanism, the Satanic Temple’s tenets. Also, the sect tells school children about their legal rights to choose to practice Satanism, according to the official press release.

Earlier this month, the school system made a decision to let any religious and atheist materials be provided in schools.

‘End Intimidation Of Journalists Covering Scottish Referendum’ – Trade Union Leader – 16 September 2014

Journalists must be allowed to cover the Scottish referendum debate without fear of intimidation, a trade union leader has said. The remarks follow public outcry against the BBC’s alleged anti-independence “bias.”

Pro-independence Scots rallied outside the BBC’s Glasgow headquarters on Sunday to protest the public broadcaster’s allegedly slanted coverage of the referendum and to demand the resignation of political editor Nick Robinson.

The BBC attracted criticism after Robinson produced a report that wrongly claimed Salmond had ignored his question during a heated press conference in Edinburgh last week.
