Well, this bizarre trend of thinking of a plant or tree not being there and then said plant or tree “uprooting itself” right afterwards continues. This has now happened so many times in our yard that I’ve lost track, beginning with a (dead) rose bush I didn’t feel like digging out, only to go outside the next morning to find someone/something had uprooted it for me overnight. I’m not sure what to make of the following exchange and email snippet, but here you go … this from another discussion on exopermaculture regarding manmade climate change:

… I support people changing their relationship to Earth — just wish it didn’t need to turn into a new socialist religion. We have plenty of old Earth traditions that we could turn to without turning ourselves into corporate and media pawns. Not soooo long ago, sovereignty and the land went together, and the health of the land was considered a direct indication of the quality or depravity of its leaders. Leaders were required to sacrifice themselves to the land, not destroy the land and its people. I’d be curious to see how much this planet will heal just by removing the psychopathic, parasitic leaders who wouldn’t know a sacred tree if it uprooted itself and knocked them into a never-ending sinkhole, which … come to think of it … isn’t such a bad idea. 😉

Germany Handed Law-Protected Private Data To NSA For Years – Reports – 4 October 2014

Intelligence service BND failed to protect the private data of German citizens as it handed over internet data collected at a Frankfurt traffic hub to the US, German media report citing secret documents.

The documents cited by VDR and EDR television and the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, which broke the news together, were obtained from the federal government during an ongoing parliamentary investigation into US National Security Service spying on German soil.

Just like the NSA is forbidden by the law to spy on Americans, the BND is not allowed to spy on Germans. So when last year in was revealed that the two intelligence services had been collaborating to collect communication data at the De-Cix internet exchange node in Frankfurt, the BND had to produce explanations.

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Denied Mortgage Refinance – 4 October 2014

Strict banking regulations for mortgages mean that even prominent people have problems securing home loans – and former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is no exception.

Bernanke, who oversaw the financial crisis in 2008, said at an investment conference in Chicago on Thursday that even he is not eligible for a home loan under new banking regulations.

“Just between the two of us,” Bernanke told conference moderator Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics, Inc., “I recently tried to refinance my mortgage and I was unsuccessful in doing so.”

I have always found Druids to be great thinkers, and this article does not disappoint in that regard. As we hover before what seems like a carefully calculated and summoned “Perfect Storm” in America, set to roil across the world, it’s both humbling and awe-inspiring to contemplate larger cycles of life.

Yesterday, I read a different article — this one by a Roman pagan — that provides a tender and empowering look at the spiritual aspects of preparedness. Two quotes jumped out at me from that blog, which seem to riff with the post below:

17,000 Macs Infected With Botnet Controlled Via Reddit – 4 October 2014

Russian security company Dr. Web has discovered a flaw in the Mac OS X, which enables hackers to control infected computers using a search service at Reddit. The company says at least 17,000 unique IPs have been hacked, mostly in the US.

Dr. Web security experts discovered several threats to the MAC OS X after conducting a check in September, the Russian company said in a statement on its website.

“One of them turned out to be a complex multi-purpose backdoor that entered the virus database as Mac.BackDoor.iWorm,” the statement reads.

Soon To Become Minority, US Whites Show Less Support For Diversity – Study – 4 October 2014

Psychologists at UCLA say they’ve conducted a study that suggests white Americans have differing views on diversity depending on whether or not their race remains the majority in the United States.

Doctoral student Felix Danbold and his University of California, Los Angeles professor Yuen Huo asked questions of roughly 100 white participants from across the US about multiculturalism and diversity, and received differing answers depending upon what they were told about the nation’s future racial makeup.

According to a press release issued by UCLA this week, the team took a pool of 98 white Americans — half male, half female, with an average age of 37 — and split them into two groups where they were told different information.

“One group was told that whites will no longer be the majority in the US by 2050,” Stuart Wolpert wrote for Phys.org. “The second group was told that whites would retain their majority status in the US through at least 2050. All participants were then asked a series of questions about their views on diversity.”

House Intelligence Chair Want US To Develop Protocols For Waging Offensive Cyberwars – 4 October 2014

Amidst reports of high-profile hacks targeting major American entities, a top congressional lawmaker said this week that that the United States must act immediately to iron out offensive and defensive rules for the cyber realm.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Michigan), the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, told attendees at an event in Washington, DC on Thursday that the US government is absent sound policies for both protecting its cyber infrastructure and launching offensive attacks, and must move swiftly to ensure foreign actors don’t launch further attacks without either party risking significant repercussions.

The majority of networks in the US are “not prepared to handle” attacks from state-sponsored hackers, Rep. Rogers said at a summit hosted by the Washington Post, yet are nonetheless being probed on a routine basis by malicious actors, including some he claims could be from Russia.
