As Bloomberg reports, the snow in Siberia is piling up, and if it keeps coming, people in New York may have to bundle up this winter as theory suggests that the amount of snow covering Eurasia in October is an indication of how much icy air will sweep down from the Arctic in December and January, pouring over parts of North America. “It’s still early in the game,” says one forecaster, but warns “the snow has gotten off to an incredible start.” Polar Vortex 2.0 here we come… and down goes US GDP…

“Instead of a profound reflection about objects as a mode of expression with multiple meanings, we have witnessed violent reactions,” American artist Paul McCarthy told journalists.

The organizers of the upcoming International Contemporary Art Fair Paris, where “The Tree” installation was due to appear, said “the artist was worried about potential trouble if the work was re-erected.”

Homemade APC: Iraqi Blacksmith Builds Armored Vehicle To Fight ISIS – 19 October 2014

A homemade Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) is not something you usually find in a backyard. RT visited an Iraqi blacksmith, who has been working 10 hours a day for 2 months, to help Kurdish fighters stop Islamic State militants.

Islamic State militants (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) have been capturing territory in Iraq and Syria since June, taking cities in both countries. The US-led coalition started bombing Islamic State targets in Iraq in August, and, in Syria, in September. On Friday and Saturday they carried out 25 airstrikes against the extremists. Assange Fears Ecuador Embassy In London Bugged – 19 October 2014

RT logoLawyers for the WikiLeaks founder have filed eavesdropping claims to the Swedish court, as Julian Assange, who has been stuck in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for over two years, fears he is being bugged.

In a submission presented to the Swedish Court of Appeal on Friday, Assange’s lawyers claim that he “is most likely under auditory surveillance,” the Daily Mail reports.

The defense also urged the Swedish side to hand over text messages, sent by one of Assange’s accusers, which they believe could serve as evidence that there was no ground for the arrest warrant. Assange says they reveal the woman’s ambiguity over his arrest and even her opposition to the case, based on sexual assault allegations.

Tough On Trolls: UK Internet Abusers May Face Up To 2 Years In Jail – 19 October 2014

RT logoInternet trolls could face two years behind bars if new tough legislation “to combat cruelty” is adopted, according to UK Justice Secretary Chris Grayling.

That’s four times the current six-month prison term and would proove the government’s zeal to “take a stand against a baying cyber-mob,” Grayling told The Daily Mail.

“These internet trolls are cowards who are poisoning our national life. No one would permit such venom in person, so there should be no place for it on social media. That is why we are determined to quadruple the current six-month sentence,” Justice Secretary added.
