Palestinians Break Through West Bank Barrier To Mark Berlin Wall Anniversary – 9 November 2014

A group of Palestinian activists dug a hole through the Israeli separation barrier in the West Bank on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

A small group of activists associated with resistance movements in villages around northwest Jerusalem hacked away at the barrier, known by Palestinians as the “Apartheid Wall,” on Saturday as a symbolic gesture to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall and to draw attention to their plight.

“No matter how high walls are built, they will fall. Just as the Berlin Wall fell, the wall in Palestine will fall, along with the occupation,” the activists’ said in a statement Saturday.

Quantum Leap Forward: China To Launch World’s Longest, ‘Hack-Proof’ Network By 2016 – 9 November 2014

China is completing the project of the planet’s longest, 2,000-kilometer quantum communication network from Beijing to Shanghai. The network is considered “unhackable” and is set to start operating in 2016.

The “unhackability” is due to the most secure encryption technology ever, the South China Morning Post reported.

By 2030, the network is expected to stretch all over the globe, Xinhua news agency said.

For now, the service is to be used by the Chinese government, the military and key business institutions such as banks.

The plans were disclosed by Professor Pan Jianwei, a quantum physicist with the University of Science and Technology of China and a lead scientist behind the project.

UK Human Rights NGOs Boycott ‘Whitewash’ Rendition & Torture Inquiry, Citing ‘Cover-Up’ – 9 November 2014

Some of the UK’s leading human rights groups are to boycott the official investigation into Britain’s involvement in post 9/11 rendition and torture, saying the parliamentary inquiry will be neither impartial nor thorough, The Observer reports.

Nine human rights organizations have signed a letter to the parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) explaining that they want no part in their investigation into the UK’s role in the alleged mistreatment of prisoners in the years after 9/11.

The letter, which was seen by The Observer, was signed by such human rights heavyweights as Amnesty international, Reprieve and Liberty.

A much-needed boost in Indo-Russian ties may be just around the corner. President Vladimir Putin will visit India next month for a 15th annual bilateral summit, held for the first time with India’s new prime minister, Narendra Modi.

India-Russia bilateral relations have been low key for a couple of years. There are many reasons for this sorry state of affairs – sorry because New Delhi and Moscow have had very close strategic ties for almost half a century now.

One of the bulwarks of Indo-Russian synergy was close defense ties and robust sales of weapon systems from Russia to India. But over the years, the Indian defense procurement policy has undergone a sea change, with India emphasizing self-reliance and indigenization.

The Wall existed in the first place because Soviet fascism knew no other way to keep its captives inside the cage. It was also a direct result of the collapse of Germany in 1945. Idiot holocaust denial claptrap about numbers aside, Hitler came to power on the back of an inflationary depression for which the Jews were largely blamed…and in which the currency was referred to as Jüdenkonfetti. My father read Mein Kampf in 1937, and immediately volunteered for the RAF. He was right wing, but an idealist with insight who knew the Nazis were coming.

Israel Wants To Confiscate Over 3,000 Acres In West Bank ‘For Military Purposes’ – Report – 9 November 2014

Israel has plans to take 3,176 acres of Palestinian land around a West Bank village near central Jerusalem, according to residents of the village who were handed orders signed by the head of IDF Central Command, Ma’an news agency reports.

Beit Iksa residents told Ma’an that the orders, signed by the Israeli military commander in the West Bank, Nitzan Alon, were distributed Saturday morning by the soldiers. They gave residents of the village until 2017 to evacuate the land.
Ma’an also published maps of the areas to be expropriated.

Soldiers who are deployed at the military checkpoint at the entrance to the village have also told the residents that a liaison officer would be arriving in the village on Monday to clarify the order.

Soldiers said that the decision had been made in 2012 to seize land for “security needs in this village adjacent to the green line,” Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. They said the new order was intended to reinforce a previously taken decision.
