French Parliament Votes To Recognize Palestinian State – 2 December 2014

RT logoFrance’s Socialist-led parliament has passed a symbolic vote to recognize Palestinian statehood, despite staunch objections from Israel. MPs in British and Spain have already passed similar motions.

The vote is non-binding, but sends a signal that Israelis and Palestinians must return to the negotiating table, following the collapse of US-mediated statehood talks in April.

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has supported the vote, setting a two-year deadline for the creation of an independent Palestine. He said that if no resolution had been found by then, France would officially recognize Palestine anyway.

ZeroHedge – With Its Gold “Vaporized”, A Furious Ukraine Turns On Its Central Bankers – 2 December 2014

ZeroHedgeAs reported two weeks ago, following a stunning announcement by the head of Ukraine’s central bank, Valeriya Gontareva, on primetime TV we learned that (virtually) all of Ukraine’s gold was gone, or – in the parlance of Jon Corzine – had “vaporized.”

And as we also predicted two weeks ago, it was only a matter of time before Ukraine’s people – the vast majority of whom are innocent pawns in a vast game of realpolitik between the west and east – finally got angry and demanded some answers, if not heads. That time came earlier today when as Interfax.ua reported “a Kyiv-based court has instructed Kyiv prosecutors to bring an action against National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Governor Valeriya Gontareva on charges of abuse of power or misuse of office to obtain illegal profit, the Vesti newspaper reported on Tuesday.”

Banned DNA Test Kits Hit UK Stores – 2 December 2014

RT logoA highly controversial DNA testing kit has gone on sale in the UK. The service, which allows users to diagnose the personal risk of developing life-threatening diseases by analyzing their DNA, was banned in the US in 2013.

The 23andMe Personal Genome Service (PGS) allows users to understand the probability of contracting hereditary conditions, such as sickle cell anemia, breast cancer and Parkinson’s disease by locating the genetic markers associated with the illnesses.

When it was released in 2008, the PGS was awarded “Invention of the Year” by TIME magazine for pioneering retail genomics, but following numerous warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it was banned in 2013 for failure to comply with regulatory requirements.

The test, on the theme of “love, sex and relationships” was given to pupils aged 13 and 14 in Ostlyckeskolan School in the town of Alingsas on the western coast of Sweden last week. The paper of more than 100 questions was designed for ninth grade pupils.

One of the assignments was to pair different words together. The students were asked how they would a girl who was “sleeping around” (in Swedish, “ligger runt”). The supposedly “correct” answer was given as “a mattress” (in Swedish, “madrass”).

‘Turkey And Russia Split Politics From Economics’ – 2 December 2014

RT logoMoscow and Ankara do not really see eye to eye on politics, but despite that have big economic potential, with Turkey considering itself an in-between partner who would take gas from Russia to Europe, Martin McCauley of the University of London, told RT.

READ MORE: Putin: Russia forced to withdraw from S. Stream project due to EU stance

RT: There are obvious political differences between Russia and Turkey but it didn’t seem to get in the way of doing some major trade deals today. Do you think it was a surprise?

Martin McCauley: No, that wasn’t a surprise because in international relations you separate politics from economics, and politics sometimes trumps economics but quite often economics carry on with political differences. Obviously in Syria the two sides see the situation quite differently because President Erdogan wants the West to take down President Assad first and then he will help America and Britain and so on to take down Islamic State. But President Putin, on the other hand … says [President Assad] should not be overthrown. So that is from the political point of view they are poles apart, but from the economic point of view this gas deal, the atomic power plant that is going to be built – that has been on the cards for quite a long time…They could have a gas pipe through Turkey, and Turkey would like the gas pipeline to go through Turkey because then it collects the rent from it. And also Turkey would like to pipe natural gas from Iran through Turkey to the West. But that of course is blocked by sanctions at present. So Turkey sees itself as the in-between partner who will take gas from Iran and Russia to Europe.

‘Hillary’s Worst Nightmare’: Kim Dotcom Flags US Internet Party Launch – 2 December 2014

RT logoKim Dotcom, wanted in US for copyright infringement, says his Internet Party plans to enter American politics next year. The taunt came shortly after a New Zealand court rejected a US plea to revoke Dotcom’s bail.

Dotcom, who is engaged in a number of court battles in New Zealand over US extradition for his Megaupload service, described himself as “your Internet Freedom fighter” and “Hillary’s worst nightmare in 2016!” in a tweet.

He said his Internet party “is coming to the United States in 2015” and that it would be “well-funded and run by American citizens” while Dotcom himself would be working public relations.
