ZeroHedgeThere was much confusion earlier today surrounding the immediate fate of Greece, when first thing in the morning Bloomberg reported a rumor that the European Commission would grant Greece a 6 month extension, sending futures surging, and then several hours later, futures surged some more when Germany’s finance minister crushed the first rumor, saying “it was wrong” and that without a Greek program, it was “all over.

Obama To Seek 3Yr War Authority Against ISIS With Limited Ground Troops – 11 February 2015

RT logoPresident Barack Obama will submit a proposal to Congress on Wednesday seeking a new, three-year Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against the Islamic State that allows for the limited use of ground troops, according to Reuters.

All of the details of the AUMF are not finalized, according to administration officials, but some were shared with reporters. The new AUMF would limit military operations to three years but wouldn’t put any geographic limitation on the battlefield. Instead, the authorization would enable military action against the Islamic State and associated forces.

The proposal will also seek the use of limited ground troops in situations such as the search-and-rescue of US soldiers or intelligence operations, but would prohibit the use of ground troops in “enduring offensive ground operations.”

ZeroHedge – How Russia Plans To Retaliate For The Saudi-Driven Collapse In Oil – 11 February 2015

ZeroHedgeA week ago we explained that yet another conspiracy theory, one involving virtually every geopolitical hotzone, from Saudi Arabia, to Russia, the United States, Qatar, Syria, ISIS, and Ukraine, has become fact when our speculation from last September, namely that the plunge in oil was an choreographed move between the US and the Saudis (even if Kerry realized – we hope – that it meant a recession for the US energy producing states and a collapse in the only vibrant US industry of the past decade: shale), one seeking to dislodge Russian control over the Syrian government and to facilitate the passage of a Qatar pipeline under Syrian territory.

Facebook Suspending Native Americans Over ‘Fake’ Names – 11 February 2015

RT logoNative Americans are complaining that Facebook’s “real name” policy results in many accounts being repeatedly suspended, as the company’s algorithm cannot believe names such as Lone Hill or Brown Eyes could be real.

According to areportfrom Colorlines, users with Native American names are being locked out of their accounts, with the social networking site demanding they prove their identities to regain access.

“We require people to provide the name they use in real life,” the social network says on its help page. “That way, you always know who you’re connecting with.”

This policy is having a direct negative affect on Native Americans, whose rare names sometimes raise red flags. In a blog post, Dana Lone Hill said she fell victim to this policy, as her account – active since 2007 – was suspended.

White House Creates New Cyber Agency In Effort To Combat Computer Attacks – 11 February 2015

RT logoThe White House has officially announced plans to establish a new agency, the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center, in order to streamline how the government handles the increasing number of attacks waged against the nation’s computer systems.

Lisa Monaco, the homeland security and counterterrorism adviser to US President Barack Obama, went public with the administration’s plans to create the agency on Tuesday, saying it would give the government greater ability to share information about potential cyberattacks among the federal offices already tasked with countering the ever-growing number of network assaults.

“The cyberthreat is one of the greatest threats we face, and policymakers and operators will benefit from having a rapid source of intelligence,” Monaco explained to the Washington Post. “It will help ensure that we have the same integrated, all-tools approach to the cyberthreat that we have developed to combat terrorism.”
