These deaths are not the consequences of poverty cycles or criminal gangs; they are a consequence of our country’s dysfunctional health system. This particular disease is almost unique to the US, with causes that lie in the very institutions that should have our best interests at heart.

“We don’t want to scare everybody, but we are preparing for full-scale war,” warns Vadym Prystaiko – Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister – telling CBC during a stunning interview that “what we expect from the world is that the world will stiffen up in the spine a little.” Deamnding that West provide ‘lethal weapons’ Prystaiko rages “everybody is afraid of fighting with a nuclear state. We are not anymore.” Coming just a week after the Minsk Summit ‘peace’ deal and with Germany having warned they are likely unable to stop arms being supplied to Ukraine, Prystaiko concludes, “we would like [The West] to send lethal weapons to Ukraine… weapons to allow us to defend ourselves.”

Pope Francis Receives German Chancellor Angela Merkel – 21 February 2015

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has received in audience German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

A Vatican press release said that the colloquium between the two leaders took place in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

It also revealed that during the cordial exchange Pope Francis and Chancellor Merkel examined a range of topics including the upcoming G7 Summit which will take place in Bavaria and other issues of international impact such as the fight against poverty and hunger; human trafficking and exploitation and the rights of women; global health challenges and the protection of the environment.

The Vatican communiqué also said Francis and Merkel touched on themes of human rights and religious freedom in some parts of the world, and on the importance of spiritual values for social cohesion.

Concluding, they focused on the situation in Europe and in particular on the commitment to reach a peaceful solution for Ukraine.
After being received by the Pope, Merkel met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State who was accompanied by Archbishop Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States.

As usual, the fine print of any European “deal” is revealed not only after the agreement, but after the US market close. So for all those waiting for the real punchline, here it is – it also is the reason why Greece got until Monday to reveal the list of “reforms” it would undertake:

“We’re in trouble next week if creditors don’t accept Greece’s reforms“, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis says. “If our list of reforms is not backed by the institutions, this agreement is dead and buried.”
