‘Little Time For Hardware Withdrawal In E.Ukraine’ – Russia’s OSCE Rep – 28 February 2015

RT logoBoth sides of the Ukraine conflict were given little time to withdraw their weapons, Andrey Kelin, Russia’s representative to the OSCE, said. Despite their fulfillment of the Minsk agreements, there is significant mistrust between the parties, he added.

The both parties have begun the withdrawal of military hardware, OSCE observers confirmed on Friday. Another confirmation regarding the actions of Kiev troops came from anti-government forces leader Aleksandr Zakharchenko.

However, there are still reports of shelling – for instance at the Donetsk airport. OSCE monitors visited the site on Friday. Both parties are blaming each other and various uncontrolled groups for the ceasefire violations.

Mega Says US Urged PayPal To Cease Working With It Based On End-To-End Encryption – 28 February 2015

RT logoPayPal will no longer process customer payments for the cloud-storage service Mega based on the latter’s use of client-side encryption. Kim Dotcom’s Mega says the decision stems from powerful American corporate influences leaning on the e-commerce site.

File-hosting site Mega made the announcement late Thursday, claiming that PayPal ultimately blamed the decision on Mega’s use of end-to-end encryption, which, to PayPal, meant an “unknowability of what is on the platform.”

Mega also suggested credit card companies Visa and MasterCard, as well as US Sen. Patrick Leahy and a report linked to the copyright-absolutists the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), ultimately pressured PayPal into dropping Mega.

ActivistPost – How The Government And Media Are Lying About Net Neutrality – 28 February 2015

Logo_activistpost-comBy Lionel

It doesn’t get any more axiomatic as to the necessity of the media to promote free-speech than the horrors that were manifested through the FCC’s imposition of net neutrality that the mainstream media in particular have met with not so much as a raised Botoxed eyebrow. In case you missed it, the Internet and World Wide Web are now considered a utility under Title II of the Communication Act. The long-range implications of such are beyond mind boggling. This opens the door to licensure requirements for websites, decency regulation, fairness doctrine applications and worse.

Police Back Down On ‘Pay-To-Protest’ Demand, But Right To Assembly Still At Risk – Activists – 28 February 2015

RT logoUK authorities who insisted activists spend thousands of pounds on a private security firm to steward a peaceful climate change march in London have backed down following intense pressure. Campaigners insist they will not “pay to protest.”

Last month, Britain’s Campaign Against Climate Change (CACC) was instructed to hire a private security company to monitor its Time to Act demonstration scheduled for early March.

The request came as Scotland Yard refused to oversee the temporary closure of streets along the group’s agreed route through central London.

‘Assad Cannot Be Syria’s Future’ – UK & French Foreign Ministers – 28 February 2015

RT logoBritain’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must not be part of any future government or participate in the US-led alliance against Islamic State.

In a joint statement published in Arabic daily Al-Hayat and France’s Le Monde, the French and British foreign ministers dismissed those who sought a rapprochement with Assad, arguing the Syrian leader was using the fear of ISIS for his own means.

“From the palace where he is hunkered down, Bashar al-Assad is not just waging a war against his own people; he is also fighting to improve his public image,” the ministers wrote.

American Spy Plane Over South China Sea Is ‘A Dangerous Development’ – 28 February 2015

RT logoChina considers growing US military activity in the waters of the South China Sea as hostile, which may lead to destabilizing the situation in the disputed region, Victor Gao, Director of the China National Association of International Studies, told RT.

The US military has admitted to flying its most-advanced spy aircraft over the South China Sea. The status of islands located in the area is still disputed.

RT: What do you think about the US presence in that area?

Victor Gao: I think it is a dangerous development that the US is more and more participating in activities in this particular region. And many of these things are considered [to be] very hostile as far as China is concerned. The more military involvement in this part of the world, the more dangerous it will become for China-US relations. As the two largest economies in the world, if anyone believes that they can resolve any issue between China and the US through military means is undoubtedly living a fantasy. It will be very destabilizing and highly unconstructive.

ActivistPost – FCC’s Creepy Spectacle At Net Neutrality Vote – 28 February 2015

Logo_activistpost-comBy Truthstream Media

Did you hear FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s weird speech after Net Neutrality passed? Did you see this picture of the commission members holding hands? The lobbyist and fervid (yes, fervid) Obama supporter running things over there is acting like he just walked on the moon while single-handedly saving everyone from a giant asteroid and cancer on the same day, all because a “majority” of three out of a panel of five unelected bureaucrats have closed the final frontier of the Internet, thus opening it up to more monopolies, price hikes, and worse, government regulation and censorship. Yay oligarchical collectivism!

Senate Votes To Fund DHS, Sending Spending Bill To The House – 28 February 2015

RT logoThe United States Senate has passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security in the face of a midnight deadline, leaving the fate of the DHS for now in the hands of the House of Representatives.

Friday morning, the Senate voted 68-31 in support of the spending bill, giving the chamber’s go-ahead to keep the Homeland Security Department fully funded. The measure needed 60 “aye” votes in order to advance.

The bill will next have to survive the House, however, and any failure on the part of lawmakers there to approve the act ahead of this evening’s deadline will effectively de-fund the major US department.
