White House Proposes Offshore Oil Regulations Ahead Of Gulf Disaster Anniversary – 14 April 2015

RT logoThe Obama administration has proposed new offshore drilling regulations nearly five years to the day after an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig led to one of the worst environmental disasters in recent memory.

A plan unveiled by the White House on Monday this week would require companies involved in offshore drilling to implement new standards, especially with regards to blowout preventers that are considered by experts to be the last line of defense during spontaneous oil and gas surges.

“We’ve taken great strides since then to strengthen, update and modernize energy regulations to ensure that offshore oil and gas development is done safely and responsibly,” Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said on Monday, according to The Hill.
