RT logoThe Prime Minister of Finland has acknowledged the victory of the opposition Centre Party in Sunday’s general election. With most of the votes counted, Centre has 21 percent support, which translates to a potential 44 seats in the country’s parliament.

“It appears the Centre has won. Congratulations,” PM Alexander Stubb, a staunch EU backer, said, according to Finnish broadcaster Yle.

However, with only 44 seats, Centre will have to form a ruling coalition. “This result will enable several possible coalition combinations”, party leader Juha Sipila told reporters.

Mild Electric Brain Stimulation Boosts Creativity, May Tackle Depression – 20 April 2015

RT logoIf you want to fight depression or boost creativity, all you need is brain stimulation treatment, according to the first results of a placebo-controlled study conducted in North Carolina.

Scientists at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill proved that normal treatment of psychiatric diseases, involving alteration of electrical activity in the brain, can measurably boost creativity. The results were published in the journal Cortex under the title “Functional role of frontal alpha oscillations in creativity”.

Twenty healthy individuals, between the ages of 19 and 30, participated in the study, undergoing a low dose of electric currents (a safe and non-invasive frequency of 8 to 12 hertz cycles per second) the first time for five minutes, and then for thirty. Electrodes attached to their scalps showed prominent rhythmic EEG patterns.

Precious Waste: 300 Tons Of Gold End Up In Landfills In 2014 – 20 April 2015

RT logoA dangerous amount of toxic waste, 1,000 tons of silver and 300 tons of gold were dumped across the world in 2014 due to inadequate recycling – says a recent United Nations University study.

Precious metals are used as components for household appliances and electronic gadgets. Almost 42 million tons of such ‘e-waste’ were simply thrown away in 2014.

The UNU study estimates the potential value of the globally wasted resources at about $50 billion. The volume of gold alone is more than 10 percent of what is mined every year.

James Corbett – The Corbett Report – OKC – A Conspiracy Theory – 20 April 2015

On the morning of April 19, 1995, a decorated Gulf War combat vet blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City using a truck bomb that he didn’t build in a Ryder truck that he didn’t rent with the help of a passenger who didn’t exist. Having just gotten away with the largest act of terrorism on U.S. soil to date the Fort Bragg-trained Special Forces (sheep dipped) “dropout” blended in with the crowd by making his getaway in a car without a license plate and was immediately pulled over. Khamenei Accuses US Of Creating Iran Nuclear Weapons ‘Myth’ – 20 April 2015

RT logoIran’s supreme leader says the United States has created the “myth” of nuclear weapons to paint Tehran as a “source of threat.” The tough rhetoric comes days before nuclear talks are set to resume in Vienna.

“They created the myth of nuclear weapons so they could say the Islamic Republic is a source of threat,” Khamenei said in a televised address to a hall of several hundred military commanders, as cited by Reuters. “No, the source of threat is America itself, with its unrestrained, destabilizing interventions,” he added.

Earlier, Iran’s most powerful figure, argued no deal on Tehran’s nuclear program was possible without the simultaneous lifting of all sanctions against the country. The US has rejected the condition.

‘We’re Not Interested In A Fair Fight’ – US Army Commander Urges NATO To Confront Russia – 20 April 2015

RT logoUS army commander in Europe says Russia is a “real threat” urging NATO to stay united. The alliance is not interested in a “fair fight with anyone” and wants to have “overmatch in all systems,” Lieutenant-General Frederick “Ben” Hodges believes.

“There is a Russian threat,” Hodges told the Telegraph, maintaining that Russia is involved in ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

A key objective for NATO is not to let Russia outreach it in terms of capabilities, the general said.

“We’re not interested in a fair fight with anyone,” General Hodges stated. “We want to have overmatch in all systems. I don’t think that we’ve fallen behind but Russia has closed the gap in certain capabilities. We don’t want them to close that gap,” he revealed.

John Ward – Analysis : Why The Standoff Between Greece And The EU Is Really The First Major Battle In The War Between Yesterday And Tomorrow – 20 April 2015

2day2morrow19415As the days drag on towards some kind of dénouement to what is rapidly becoming the silliest, longest and most empty threat of a death sentence in political history, I continue to be amazed that the Western media are reporting the Greece-eurogroupe ‘deadlock’ as if it was a purely technical matter.

There are only two elements of the ‘crisis’ that concern me: the emotional dimension of an at times infuriating but fundamentally sound culture I’ve loved for over forty years being pelted by a salvo of Brussels sprouts, controlling sauerkrats, and past-sell-by date Frankfurters; and the former politics student’s fascination with the factions and rivalries on both sides. Rapidly Spreading Wildfire Prompts Evacuation Of 300 Homes In California – 20 April 2015

RT logoA wildfire about 35 miles (56 km) east from Los Angeles, California, has forced the evacuation of 300 homes, burning about 300 acres of land. It’s reported to be quickly approaching residential areas.

About 800 firefighters are battling the fire, along with two water-dropping helicopters and two airplanes. At least nine local fire departments have been scrambled, but have only managed to bring about 15 percent of the affected area under control so far.

Firefighters’ access to the burning area is hindered by difficult terrain and changing wind direction. “The fire is fueled by thick brush in a riverbed that hasn’t burnt in years,” says Captain Mike Mohler, head of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. “The fire is creating its own weather, so firefighters are having difficulty getting in there.”
