UK Could Send Drones To Mediterranean To Aid Migrant Crisis – 27 April 2015

RT logoDrones controlled by the armed forces and launched from Royal Navy ships could be sent to the Mediterranean as part of the UK’s contribution to managing the migrant crisis.

According to plans currently under consideration by defense chiefs, the Navy’s ScanEagle drones may be used to scour the sea for boats filled with migrants attempting to make the dangerous crossing.

European nations are sending greater levels of assistance to the Mediterranean after more than 800 migrants were killed when their boat sank 60 miles off the coast of Libya last week.

In the first four months of 2015 more than 1,750 migrants have died while attempting to travel to Europe, a 30 fold rise on the same period in 2014.
