Mish/ Mike Shedlock – Cash Dinosaur: France Limits Cash Transactions To €1,000, Puts Restrictions On Gold; Bitcoin End Coming? – 19 March 2015

MishMikeShedlockA few days ago I asked How Long Before Cash is Banned?

My question was in reference to reader CNA (Cards Not Appreciated) who commented …

Hi Mish

I’ve been in Italy for a month. It’s quite amazing how many places ask you to pay cash. Even at hotels, they would like you to pay your €1000+ bills in cash. And people ‘wonder’ why these countries always get into trouble.

New York City Settles NYPD Chokehold Lawsuit For $75,000 – 20 January 2015

RT logoA Brooklyn man who said he was placed in a chokehold and unable to breathe during an incident with New York police has settled with the city for $75,000. His attorney said it was “another example of a black man choked and beaten down into the ground.”

The incident dates back to February 9, 2013, according to a report by the New York Daily News, when Kevin Dennis-Palmer Sr. was put in a chokehold and attacked by police officers after he attempted to park his car near his home.

The lawsuit was filed one month before African American man Eric Garner died after being placed in a chokehold by a New York Police Department officer in Staten Island. That incident drew nationwide attention to law enforcement’s use of the chokehold, which is banned by the NYPD.

Petition To revoke Tony Blair’s Save The Children Award Hits 100,000+ – 28 November 2014

RT logoA petition calling for former Prime Minister Tony Blair to have his Save the Children Global Legacy Award revoked has reached more than 100,000 signatures.

Staunch opposition to the decision to award Blair the prize also came from many of the international charity’s own staff, with an outraged internal letter calling the award “morally reprehensible.”

The award was given to Blair for his role in the Make Poverty History campaign, when, at the 2005 Gleneagles G8 Summit, he persuaded the wealthiest nations to provide $40 billion in aid relief to the poorest.

While serving Britain as prime minister, Blair formally committed the country to allocating 0.7 percent of its GDP to overseas aid. His administration also founded the Department for International Development (DFID).

The sample doses will be brought into the country by a representative of the US government “later this week.”

World Health Organization (WHO) executive director Dr. Margaret Chan also approved a dispatch of additional doses to Liberia “to support the treatment of affected doctors,” the statement said. Those doses will also arrive later this week via a WHO expert.

Junking Clunkers: China Will Destroy 5,000,000 Cars This Year To Battle Air Pollution – 26 May 2014

RT logoChina is going to make air cleaner by taking 5.33 million ageing cars off its roads, according to a government document. The move is part of a broader campaign for battling deep environmental crisis that’s gripped world’s second-biggest economy.

The vehicles in question are so-called ‘yellow label’ cars that do not meet Chinese fuel standards and are thus meant to be ‘eliminated’ this year, the Chinese State Council document published on Monday and cited by Reuters, says.

Chinese authorities, spurred by overwhelming public outcry, have lately boosted efforts for tackling the growing ecological crisis, a byproduct of decades of massive economic growth amid neglect for environmental protection.
