Putin, Obama In ‘Brief Meeting’ At APEC summit – 10 November 2014

Vladimir Putin has met with Barack Obama on Monday in Beijing at the APEC summit, the Kremlin has confirmed. With relations between Moscow and Washington strained, the encounter between the two leaders was hardly more than a mere greeting and small talk.

Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press secretary, said the two said hello and had a brief talk at the welcoming ceremony.

“There was no conversation,” Peskov said. “Actually, they greeted each other – there was a short contact on the sidelines of the event we were talking about.”

However, Putin and Obama may still have a full-length meeting on Tuesday, a highly-ranked US official told RIA Novosti news agency.\

There is a tidbit to yesterdays sharing I didn’t add, and my team has hijacked my brains until I talk about it now.  I so wanted to start with the readings yesterday, but I cannot untangle the information within me because spirit is focused on this…

I talked about the show I was watching and the man who had the NDE (near death experience) and his guide Gabe asked him “what have you done for your fellow-man” as his life review started.  What I didn’t mention (time constraints ya know) was that the first (and only one he mentioned) segment of his life review that showed up to help him remember what he did, was at the age of 10 when he was a school crossing guard.  He smiled as he remembered how seriously he took that job, especially when it came to the 5 and 6 year olds that were crossing the street.  This was his first purposeful act of serving his fellow-man.

Cockroaches To The Rescue: ‘Cyborg’ Insects Can Help Save People Trapped In Earthquakes – 10 November 2014

There may be a time when the sight of a cockroach crawling toward you brings joy and relief, rather than disgust. US university researchers have developed ‘cyborg cockroaches’ to help save human lives in search-and-rescue missions.

The new project from scientists at North Carolina State University has cockroaches equipped with electronic backpacks and microphones that control the insects’ movements and help locate humans in enclosed spaces. The remote-controlled cockroaches – or “biobots” – are programmed to save people’s lives in case of disasters, such as the aftermath of earthquakes.

“Insect biobots, with a natural ability to crawl through small spaces, offer unique advantages over traditional synthetic robots,” says the study, titled “Acoustic Sensors for Biobotic Search and Rescue.”

Obama Urges FCC To Reclassify Internet Amid Net Neutrality Protests – 10 November 2014

United States President Barack Obama said Monday that the Federal Communications Commission should heed calls from the public concerning the future of the internet and “implement the strongest possible rules to protect net neutrality.”

The president’s remarks, posted to the White House website early Monday by way of both a video message and a written statement are among the most straightforward yet spoken by Obama after long advocating for net neutrality but publically doing little in the face of the FCC’s looming decision on the matter.

Last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, said at the celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall last weekend that we are facing a new Cold War. What are the geopolitical realities behind this statement?

This weekend I was invited onto RT to do an interview about the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, particularly focusing on the speech delivered by the last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, during his visit to Berlin.

I would like to expand on some of the topics I mentioned – how to encapsulate an alternative geopolitical perspective different from the Western orthodoxy in under four minutes? A task even Monty Python would find challenging!

The first issue was Gorbachev’s comments about a new Cold War. I would agree, and this is being fabricated by the USA, as that country always needs an Emmanuel Goldstein figure to justify its military-industrial complex that is bankrupting the country and brutalizing the world, while enriching the US oligarchs to the detriment of civil society everywhere.

Cash For Contacts: Tony Blair’s Illicit Saudi Oil Dealings Spark Outrage – 10 November 2014

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has signed a multimillion pound contract with a Saudi Arabian oil company to broker secret deals on the firm’s behalf with Chinese state officials, it has emerged.

Tony Blair Associates, an umbrella company owned by the former Labour leader, now a Middle East envoy, agreed in November 2010 to organize deals between oil company PetroSaudi and elite Chinese officials, a leaked contract seen by The Sunday Times suggests.

The deals were to be arranged during Blair’s visit to the Chinese capital of Beijing in November that year.

While the contract was in place, PetroSaudi reportedly paid Bair £41,000 a month to carry out these duties, and added a lucrative 2 percent cut of each successfully orchestrated agreement to the former prime minister’s paycheck.

PetroSaudi was reportedly informed it could not reveal Blair’s role in the business arrangement without permission. Despite the firm’s insistence the deal would remain shrouded in secrecy, the contract was leaked.

Greens, SNP & Welsh Nationalists Slam BBC Over Exclusion From TV Election Debates – 10 November 2014

The Green Party, the Scottish National Party (SNP) and the Welsh nationalists Plaid Cymru have joined forces to urge the BBC to re-examine its decision to exclude “minor” parties from live televised debates in the run-up to the 2015 general election.

The calls come after an online petition with over 217,000 signatories protested against the BBC’s decision not to include the Green Party in live election debates.

In their joint letter, the three parties, backed by crossbenchers, call on the BBC to include a broader range of political opinion in the debates, citing “clear public support” for more diverse debates.

In October it was proposed that the UK Independence Party (UKIP) would join the three dominant parties, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Labour, in a debate featuring the four party leaders – PM David Cameron for the Tories, Nick Clegg for the Liberal Democrats, Opposition leader Ed Miliband for the Labour party and Nigel Farage for UKIP.
