Google, Asian Companies To Build $300 Mn Super-High-Speed Trans-Pacific Underwater Cable System – 12 August 2014

RT logoGoogle has joined five Asian companies to build and operate a new $300 million Trans-Pacific submarine cable system, called FASTER, which will connect the US and two locations in Japan, providing a service 10 million times faster than a cable modem.

The project would see the 9,000-kilometer fiber-optic cable landed at Chikura and Shima in Japan with extensions to other Asian locations in the future, according to the companies.

In the US, the connection will cover major hubs on the West Coast, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.

Sometimes the fastest path requires going through an ocean,” Urs Hölzle, Google’s senior vice president of infrastructure, said in a Google Plus post Monday.

Pittsburgh Airport To Host Fracking Sites Starting This Month – 12 August 2014

RT logoThe floundering Pittsburgh International Airport is expected to soon begin earning nearly a quarter of its annual operating budget by letting a local energy company conduct fracking operations deep under the once booming air traffic hub.

On Monday, the New York Times reported first that the airport in southwestern Pennsylvania — the second busiest in the Keystone State — cut a deal with Consol Energy that will let the oil and gas company begin drilling next month to extract resources from beneath PIT by way of fracking, or hydraulic fracturing.

Earlier this year in March, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Alleghany County, PA is expected to gain upwards of $500 million during the next two decades by letting Consol drill as many as 60 wells on 8,800 acres of airport property, the likes of which would yield an estimated 280 billion cubic feet to 800 billion cubic feet of natural gas, according to the paper.

wes-annac-300x229Written by Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

This is part of an ongoing series I’ve been writing about the fourth-dimensional realms that are known as the ‘Borderlands’. See The Spirit World Chronicles for backstory on this series.

People are taken to the Borderlands to come to terms with their physical death and adjust to the conditions of the fourth dimension, among other, similar purposes. Continue reading

Obama Calls Criticism Of His Syria Policy ‘Horses**t’ – 12 August 2014

RT logoPresident Barack Obama has been roundly criticized in recent years for a supposed lack of support for so-called moderate rebels fighting the Syrian government. What does he think of such critiques? “Horseshit,” he recently told lawmakers.

The Daily Beast reported that Obama, in a White House meeting on July 31 over foreign policy with about a dozen House and Senate leaders, was pressed over his administration’s handling of requests for arms and other support made by opposition groups in Syria. During the meeting, Sen. Bob Corker criticized this policy and others related to the administration’s posture in Ukraine and Iraq, according to lawmakers in the meeting.

A “visibly agitated” Obama, according to the report, defended his administration’s foreign policy decisions, saying that any notion of a better outcome had the US offered increased support to rebels in the Syrian civil war against Bashar Assad’s forces was “horseshit.”
