Gazprom To Cut Supplies To Ukraine From June If No Prepayment – 12 May 2014

RT logoIf Kiev does not pay its gas bills by June 2, exports to Ukraine will be halted the next day, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev meanwhile urged demanding advanced payment from Kiev as early as Tuesday.

Miller told Medvedev on Monday that Gazprom will issue a preliminary June bill to Ukraine’s Naftogaz on May 13. According to Miller, Kiev already owes the company more than $3.5 billion, which compares to Gazprom’s annual gas supply to Poland.

“In case Ukraine does not pay for the June supplies, Gazprom will notify the Ukrainian side, before 10am on June 3, and the volume of gas will be supplied to Ukraine in accordance with the advanced payment,” Miller said.

Russia Introduces Separate Ministry For North Caucasus Affairs – 12 May 2014

RT logoVladimir Putin has replaced the presidential envoy in the North Caucasus district and ordered a dedicated ministry for North Caucasus affairs be set up, headed by the former governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region.

The head of Russia’s Presidential Administration, Sergey Ivanov, told reporters that the main tasks of the new ministry would be improving the employment situation in the region, attracting investments and control over the spending of federal budgetary funds.

Ivanov added that the freshly appointed minister, Lev Kuznetsov, was a very effective official with excellent knowledge of economics and finance and was a perfect candidate for the post. Ivanov also said that establishing a separate ministry for the North Caucasus was a useful move as such model had already been tested in the Far East and recently in Crimea and proved to be very successful.

Thailand’s Political Crisis: Showdown Looms Following ‘Judicial Coup’ – 12 May 2014

As a power struggle ensues between traditionalist and pro-Thaksin factions, mass demonstrations throughout Bangkok may spark violent clashes and prompt a response from the military.

Following months of polarizing mass protests and political violence, Thailand’s highest court recently ruled to remove embattled caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office over various charges of corruption. The ongoing political crisis began in November when Yingluck attempted to push through a broad amnesty law that would have pardoned Thaksin Shinawatra, her brother and former prime minister who faces criminal charges for corruption. Since that time, opposing protest movements representing the country’s two rival political factions that have clogged major roads in the country’s capital, Bangkok and occupied various public spaces around the city.

US May Review Ban On Transgender People Serving In Armed Forces – 12 May 2014

RT logoUS Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he is open about looking into the American military’s ban on not allowing transgender people to serve in the armed forces adding that, “every qualified American” should have an opportunity to serve.

The US military has come under pressure for its continued insistence that transgender people are not allowed to be in the armed forces. President Barack Obama has made lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights one of his major priorities since being elected.

Relations have improved since Obama abolished the military’s policy of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’, which had stopped gay men and women from serving openly. However, this does not apply to transgender individuals, who want to serve in the army, navy or air force.

Laura Bruno – Protecting Yourself From Lyme Disease – 12 May 2014

laura-of-the-rocksIn the Northern Hemisphere we’ve entered the Lyme time of year — when ticks connect to skin, transmitting all manner of unpleasant parasites, spirochetes and protozoa. I have so many clients suffering from or who recently recovered from Chronic Lyme Disease, and I know that people grow afraid to spend any time in Nature, lest they encounter another tick. Unfortunately, most Lyme folks really need the grounding that Nature provides, and living in fear of Nature does nothing to heal the disease or bring joy to life.

I’ve had some ongoing conversations both locally and on the popular Healing Lyme Disease post of this blog. I’ve shared with people that before I go into the woods, I affirm that I am of different vibration than Lyme Disease and that ticks cannot get near me. Since I began doing this last year, I’ve not had any ticks on me, even when everyone else I go out with does. I also slather myself with various essential oils, including lavender, which supposedly repels ticks, but I believe it’s the vibrational energy that really does the trick. Continue reading

ZeroHedge – US Futures Blast Out Of The Gate On More Empty Promises By The ECB – 12 May 2014

ZeroHedgeEast Ukraine may be independent in a result which the Kremlin said it “respects” and hopes for a “civilized implementation” of the referendum results, and which assures further military escalation in the proxy war of east versus west, but stocks are happy to ignore it all again.  The reason: a positive close over in Asia (ex-Japan) after China’s State Council pledged to reform markets buoyed demand for risk, although it really is just a follow through to the furious VIX slam in the last hour of US Friday trading, which said otherwise, means buying of US equities was the reason to buy US equities. More importantly and adding to the early spoo euphoria were comments by ECB’s Nowotny who said that interest rate cut alone would likely be too little to combat low inflation – suggesting a European QE is coming – also acted as a catalyst for the latest uptick in stocks: when trapped like the ECB and when “guiding” to future activity, if unable to actually execute it, may as well go all the way. End result, Spoos up nearly 0.5% because, well, others are buying spoos.

‘Eastern Ukrainians Aren’t Seeking Separation, They’re Expressing Their Will’ – 12 May 2014

RT logoThe referendum results in eastern Ukraine are sending a message that their rights are not adequately protected and recognized by the Kiev government, former Indian Foreign Minister Kanwal Sibal told RT.

RT: The region of Lugansk says it will now ask for UN recognition. Do you see any chance of that?

Kanwal Sibal: I don’t think that will happen, but I heard that people who held the referendum are saying that they still remain part of Ukraine. While it is self-determination at the moment, evidently they are not thinking of a separate state. Therefore, there is no occasion for them to go to the United Nations – if this is the basis of the referendum, that will be premature. And certainly in the UN there is no chance of getting approval of this because the US, the Europeans and many others will not approve this and there is no question of approval by the Security Council. But the people in eastern Ukraine have made a very strong point that they don’t recognize the legitimacy of the Kiev government and an equal right to express their democratic feelings, as those who were agitating in Kiev a few weeks earlier, and that their wishes must be taken into account and that May 25 elections won’t be legitimate as it will not incorporate the eastern part of Ukraine in the election process.
