Scientists In Russia Developing Three Ebola Vaccines – Health Ministry – 12 October 2014

Russian scientists are working on three potential Ebola vaccines which they expect to introduce as soon as in the next six months. One of the vaccines is “already ready for clinical trials,” Russia’s health minister Veronika Skvortsova has announced.

“We have created three vaccines,” Skvortsova announced in an interview with Rossiya-1 TV. “One vaccine is based on a strain of Ebola, and the other two have been created by means of genetic engineering.”

Russian virologists have also created an anti-virus drug that, they believe, could be successfully used for treating Ebola as tests have showed that that it is effective in curing Ebola-related diseases.

So far, there is now no licensed treatment or vaccine for the highly contagious disease that has killed over 4,000 people in western Africa since the start of the year and has recently started spreading beyond the region.

Conversely, Brian Williams could call people dropping like flies in Times Square the result of one tainted hot dog in Des Moines, and viewers would find a way to buy it.

For years, the CDC trumpeted the yearly death toll from flu, in the US, as 36,000, and no one blinked or trembled. Not a problem. Why? Because no one in charge said: “epidemic.”

Edward Snowden has hit out at Dropbox and other services he says are “hostile to privacy,” urging web users to abandon unencrypted communication and adjust privacy settings to prevent governments from spying on them in increasingly intrusive ways.

“We are no longer citizens, we no longer have leaders. We’re subjects, and we have rulers,” Snowden told The New Yorker magazine in a comprehensive hour-long interview.

There isn’t enough investment into security research, into understanding how metadata could better be protected and why that is more necessary today than yesterday, he said.

More food from former swimming pools. I used to live in Mesa,AZ and can vouch for the harsh climate and out of place swimming pools. This transformation is amazing. Glad to see them taking things on the road.

This isn’t the first time I’ve posted on the idea of converting water-hogging back yard pools in arid climates to tiny permacultural paradises, but this may be the best article so far on the subject. Note that like Marcin Jakubowski, this couple fall flat on their faces over and over again in their ongoing quest to discover and refine what works and what does not. The best metaphor I know for this business of allowing “failure” to inform us comes from sailing: we tack first one way, then another, in order to go in a straight line. So, with any initiative worth its salt that both holds our attention and activates our passion, we need to learn to just keep that “line” in mind as we  “correct” first one way, then another, over and over and over again.

Dublin Gridlocked As 50,000 Irish Protesters Oppose ‘Ministry Of Thirst’ Water Charges – 12 October 2014

Some 50,000 people packed Dublin’s streets to oppose a government plan for a new water tax. The anti-austerity protest came on the same day as a shock by-election victory for an anti-water charges campaigner, and was Ireland’s largest demo in years.

Until now, Ireland’s citizens paid for their water services through general taxation. However this year, the country’s center-right coalition decided to charge households several hundred euro a year for the service, from the start of 2015. The move immediately became unpopular among the country’s population, and has sparked a mass non-payment movement.

The Right2Water Campaign calling for the water bills to be abolished was organized by trade unions, anti-austerity groups and opposition parties. The organizers of the event estimated up to 100,000 of people took part in the anti-austerity march on Saturday, while the Irish Times put the figure at around 50,000.

The mother of Michael Brown, who was killed in the August 9 shooting, marched with a group of some 300 people on Ferguson police department on Saturday afternoon.

The scenario of this bio-terrorism drill was designed to simulate a smallpox attack in three states. Numerous congressmen, former CIA director James Woolsey, New York Times reporter Judith Miller (who pushed the Iraq WMD myth, as well as the false link between Iraq and the Anthrax attacks), and anti-terror official Jerome Hauer all participated in the exercise.

We want you to develop an appreciation for the vastness of conscious understanding that is available to you. But the first step is to acknowledge the existence of it. If you do not believe that there is information and guidance and assistance available to you from outside of what is considered normal and ordinary by your society, then you will not recognize it. You will not be able to perceive it in any meaningful way because it is outside of your system of belief.

You do not have to reconstruct your belief system in a major way, but simply acknowledge that greater possibilities of understanding do exist and are available to you. You emerge up out of this great well of consciousness; you are already a part of that greater understanding. So naturally it can find its way to you in ways that make sense. You are not after some alien intelligence, unless of course you think of yourself as some kind of alien. It is all native within you.
