Mish/ Mike Shedlock – Super Taper Tantrum? How About An UnTaper Tantrum? – 16 April 2015

MishMikeShedlockGenerally, the IMF is wrong every which way about nearly everything.

Thus, one has to wonder if the correct response to ‘Super taper tantrum’ ahead, warns IMF is along the lines of “No Worries Mate“.

José Viñals, the director of the IMF’s monetary and capital markets department, warned of a “super taper tantrum” and spiking yields as the US central bank gets nearer to lifting rates from near-zero levels. “This is going to take place in uncharted territory,” he said in an interview.

In its Global Financial Stability Report, released on Wednesday, the IMF argued that risks have not only risen worldwide, but that they have rotated to parts of the financial world that are harder to monitor — including to the non-bank sector.

RT logoA Texas chef who has fed San Antonio’s homeless population for the past 10 years from a non-profit mobile food truck was suddenly cited and fined by local police for feeding the homeless.

Despite the ticket being issued a week earlier, Joan Cheever, founder of a San Antonio mobile food truck called the Chow Train, was nevertheless out feeding the homeless on Tuesday. There has been an outpouring of support for Cheever after news of the ticket surfaced, which she still has to fight in court in June – and which she said she would do under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Surveillance Reform? Intense Lobbying Battle Brewing Over Patriot Act Expiration – 16 April 2015

RT logoJust over a month remains before Congress decides whether to reauthorize the USA Patriot Act – the controversial post-9/11 law that serves as the backbone for surveillance. Critics and supporters are lobbying Congress to either ensure their needs are met.

Several provisions of the Patriot Act, first signed during the Bush administration, are due to expire on June 1. The act’s ten provisions included enhancing domestic security against terrorists, improving intelligence gathering and sharing, as well as surveillance procedures. Critics say many of the provisions violate the US Constitution.

The most controversial provision is Section 215, which permits US law enforcement and surveillance agencies to collect phone records and business records. It is the section that the National Security Agency (NSA) claims gave it authority to conduct mass surveillance of US phone records – authority that was exposed by whistleblower and former contractor Edward Snowden.

Steve Lendman – Iranian Nuclear Deal Factsheet – 16 April 2015

StevelendmanOn Wednesday, Iran’s Parliament released a factsheet on agreed on nuclear deal framework terms. It differs markedly from Obama’s distorted version.

He proved he can’t be trusted many times before. Again by betraying Iran.

On the one hand, by distorting and inaccurately reporting terms agreed on.

On the other, by selling out to bipartisan congressional hardliners, Israel and its Lobby.

He effectively wrecked agreed on framework terms by giving Congress final say on agreement provisions if reached by June 30. Continue reading

Tennessee Moves To Make Holy Bible The Official State Book – 16 April 2015

RT logoThe Tennessee House of Representatives has voted to make the Bible the official state book. Legislators backed the measure despite questions raised by the state’s attorney general about the bill’s constitutionality and the governor’s stated disapproval.

Republican state Rep. Jerry Sexton, a pastor for 25 years before being elected in November, sponsored the bill to make the Bible a state symbol.

“History’s going to tell us where we stand on this. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to have the side that I’m on,” Sexton said after the vote. “It may be kind to me in the future and it may not be kind, and that’s OK. I made a decision for today and I feel good about it.”

Israel’s High Court Unfreezes Controversial Anti-Boycott Law – 16 April 2015

RT logoIsrael’s top judicial panel has upheld much-disputed 2011 legislation, which allows lawsuits and penalties against companies, NGOs and individuals who attempt to impose a boycott on Israel or its West Bank settlements.

The bill was passed four years ago to combat the nascent Palestinian-born Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, but has been in legal limbo ever since, over accusations that it is unconstitutional. It was suspended by the same High Court of Justice in December 2012, and has never been used.

On Wednesday, the nine-person panel voted unanimously to preserve the broadly-worded legislation that allows anyone who has been discriminated against “solely because of their affinity with the State of Israel, one of its institutions or an area under its control, in such a way that may cause economic, cultural or academic damage,” to file legal charges. An identical vote kept the right of the Ministry of Finance to take away funding, or even fine any organizations that support the BDS campaign.

Jon Rappoport – Power Outside The Matrix: How Free Can You Be? – 16 April 2015

jon7Freedom is. It’s the natural state of being.

Before limitation and slavery, there was freedom.

It had no party, no law, no mandate. It just was.

Freedom was and is the simplicity in the tangle, the force that has no equal.

Without it, everything withers, everything is turned into a program.

During my 30 years as a reporter covering “the news behind the news,” I’ve seen countless instances in which the Matrix shows up, swims into view.

The Matrix, the central image, is a lie. But not just any lie. Continue reading

Nanoparticle-Coated-Mesh Could Clean Up Oil Spills – 16 April 2015

RT logoScientists in Ohio say that they’ve developed a specialized type of mesh that might be able to clean up oil spills at a fraction of the current cost thanks to a breakthrough in nanotechnology.

Research out of Ohio State University’s nano lab said this revealed a type of steel mesh that allows water to pass through it, but not oil.

The high-tech mesh is coated in a nearly undetectable dusting of microscopic particles that repels oils, and the scientists behind it say it could be the key to cleaning up future spills.

“If you scale this up, you could potentially catch an oil spill with a net,” Bharat Bhushan, a professor of mechanical engineering at Ohio State, said in a press release issued by the school on Wednesday.

EU Parliament Adopts Resolution Calling On Turkey To Recognize Armenian Genocide – 16 April 2015

RT logoThe EU Parliament urges Turkey to recognize the Armenian genocide and pave the way for “a genuine reconciliation” between the two nations. Prior to the vote on a resolution, the Turkish President said Ankara would disregard any of Brussels’s decisions.

In the resolution put to the vote on Wednesday, MEPs called on Armenia and Turkey to “use the centenary of the Armenian genocide” to normalize diplomatic relations, open the border and pave the way for economic integration.

Using “examples of successful reconciliation between European nations,” the EU parliamentarians voted that Armenia and Turkey “without preconditions” should ratify and implement, “the protocols on the establishment of diplomatic relations, opening the border” as well as improve their relations, “with particular reference to cross-border cooperation and economic integration.”
