Portugal Leaves Bailout Program With 214Bn Euro Debt, 4% Lower GDP – 17 May 2014

RT logoPortugal exited its international bailout program on Saturday, regaining its economic sovereignty, which it lost after the European debt crisis. However, the country’s GDP is four percent lower than in 2010, a year before it asked for financial help.

The country will become the second eurozone country to leave the bailout after Ireland. Portugal underwent three years of painful austerity, in order to receive a 78-billion euro loan (106 billion US dollars), to help a nation that was on the verge of bankruptcy.

However, not everything has gone smoothly for Portugal, with the end of the bailout coming at a time when data has shown the country’s economy contracted by 0.7 percent in the first quarter of 2014. Overall, the country’s GDP is four percent lower than in 2010, a year before they asked the International Monetary Fund for financial help.

Russian Anti-GMO Activists Raise Funds For ‘First-Ever’ Independent Intl Research – 17 May 2014

RT logoDownload video (27.45 MB)

GMO production and distribution is likened to terrorism by the authors of a draft bill submitted to the Russian parliament earlier this week. It’s not the first comparison of the kind, according to Elena Sharoykina, director of the Genetic Safety Public Association (GSPA), a 10-year-old NGO in Moscow, Russia’s major campaigner for GM-free food and agriculture.

In an interview to RT, Sharoykina recalled a statement made by the NATO Committee on the Challenges to Modern Society in the Belgian city of Liege in 2004, in which it warned that GMOs may be used as a genetic weapon.

“This is the greatest flooding disaster ever. Not just in the past 100 years; this has never happened in Serbia’s history,” Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic told a news conference on Thursday.

ZeroHedge – “Feeding The Homeless” Is A Crime In Increasingly More US Cities – 17 May 2014

ZeroHedgeSubmitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,

Have you ever given food to a homeless person?  Well, if you do it again in the future it might be a criminal act depending on where you live.  Right now, there are dozens of major U.S. cities that have already passed laws against feeding the homeless.  As you will read about below, in some areas of the country you can actually be fined hundreds of dollars for just trying to give food to a hungry person.  I know that sounds absolutely insane, but this is what America is turning into.  Communities all over the country are attempting to “clean up the streets” by making it virtually illegal to either be homeless or to help those that are homeless.  Instead of spending more money on programs to assist the homeless, local governments are bulldozing tent cities and giving homeless people one way bus tickets out of town.  We are treating some of the most vulnerable members of our society like human garbage, and it is a national disgrace.

New Dinosaur found alive ‘is Labour donor’ says BBC

I fell about laughing yesterday on the news that Jean-Claude Juncker (managing director of Radio Luxembourg and EC Bigwig) has accused Alexis Tsipras as being unfit to run Greece, let alone run for Juncker’s sinecure in the Euro-elections this weekend. Dipping a gently grilled lark’s cock into his mouth while masturbating a pig and anally shagging a goat at the same time, Caligula told the Empire Chronicle last week that Claudius was unfit to run Rome.
