2,000 Dead Snow Geese ‘Basically… Just Fell Out Of The Sky’ In Idaho – 18 March 2015

RT logoVolunteers and Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) staff members spent the weekend collecting the carcasses of about 2,000 migrating snow geese that died mid-flight. Its officials believe the birds were killed by avian cholera.

“Basically, they just fell out of the sky,” IDFG spokesman Gregg Losinski told Reuters.

Snow geese breed on the tundras of Canada and Alaska during the summer, and spend the winters along both American coasts, as well as in marshes, grasslands and wet areas near ponds. These birds were migrating back to their nesting grounds in Northern Alaska from the southwestern US and Mexico, and died while stopping at Idaho’s Mud Lake and Market Lake Wildlife Management Areas, IDFG said in a statement.

RT logoAt least 22 local, state, and federal government officials in the US — including leading military and police figures — have been convicted of child pornography and child sex abuse crimes in recent years, according to a new report.

Using public records and news accounts, the Daily Beast reported Monday on the staggering epidemic of child porn, sex abuse, and violent rape crimes in Washington and beyond.

The most recent arrest occurred last month. Daniel Rosen, a senior State Department official, was caught soliciting sex online with a minor.

In January, the former acting director of cyber security for the US Department of Health and Human Services was sentenced to 25 years in prison after a child pornography conviction. San Diego Sues Monsanto For Bay Pollution & Persistent Contamination – 18 March 2015

RT logoAgrochemical giant Monsanto has been sued by the City of San Diego and the San Diego Unified Port District for selling chemicals the multinational knew were harmful to the ecology, including that of the now heavily polluted San Diego Bay.

According to the San Diego Reader, city agencies filed suit on Monday, alleging Monsanto hid its knowledge of the toxicity of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Despite being aware of these facts, the company peddled its chemical compounds for industrial use, including shipbuilding, electrical component manufacture, food packaging and paint plasticizers.

The city and port were previously held responsible by the San Diego Regional Water Control Board for the bay’s pollution, resulting in fines of $949,634. The city set aside $6.45 million to improve the Shipyards Sediment Site, the most notoriously polluted section of the bay. City and port authorities have already sued shipbuilding companies BAE and NASSCO, and are now going for Monsanto.

Mish/ Mike Shedlock – IMF Fears “Taper Tantrum”; Rear View Mirror Discovery – 18 March 2015

MishMikeShedlockThe totally useless and always late to the party, Christine Lagarde, just now warns of Emerging Markets Instability.

The head of the International Monetary Fund warned on Tuesday that emerging markets are set to face a renewed period of economic instability when US interest rates rise this year, forecasting a repeat of 2013’s damaging “taper tantrum” episode of capital flight and rapid currency depreciation.

The IMF chief said she feared that negative “spillover” effects from these increases would lead to a re-run of the crisis that hit developing economies such as India and Turkey nearly two years ago, following hints from then Fed chair Ben Bernanke about an early end to the institution’s bond purchasing programme known as quantitative easing. ‘Chapter Not Closed’? Greece WWII Reparations Cause Split Among German MPs – 18 March 2015

RT logoSeveral senior Social Democrats (SPD) and Greens have for the first time acknowledged that Greece has a case for WWII reparations. This contradicts the stance of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government which had ruled it out.

“We should make a financial approach to victims and their families,” said Gesine Schwan, chairwoman of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) values committee told Der Spiegel Online on Tuesday.

It would be good for us Germans to sweep up after ourselves in terms of our history,” she said. “Victims and descendants have longer memories than perpetrators and descendants,” said Schwan, who was nominated as a candidate for President twice in 2004 and 2009.

FBI Inches Towards Expanded Hacking Powers – 18 March 2015

RT logoFederal investigators are now one stop closer to having the authority to spy on faraway servers following the advancement of a proposed rule change that could expand certain law enforcement powers this week.

On Monday, the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules voted 11-1 in favor of updating “Rule 41,” a provision that currently limits courts to granting search warrants only within certain geographical bounds. Under the proposed changes, however, judges would be able to approve warrants for remote searches of computers outside of their district, or in instances where the location is not known, widely expanding the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s reach when it comes to targeting suspected cybercriminals.

Tech giant Google warned earlier this year that the Department of Justice’s proposed change “raises a number of monumental and highly complex constitutional, legal and geopolitical concerns that should be left to Congress to decide” because it would let the FBI hack computer servers regardless of their geographical location.
