Breaking – Major Explosion, Fire At Shell Oil Plant In The Netherlands – 3 June 2014

A massive explosion, seen from miles away, has occurred at a Shell Oil production plant in Moerdijk, Netherlands, according to Omroep Brabant.

Two “enormously loud bangs” were reported by bystanders.

There are currently no plans to evacuate the area around the factory, Omroep Brabant reports. There are no injuries, according to a Shell Moerdijk spokesperson.

Too Small To Have Internet? Tiny German Village Builds Own Broadband Service – 3 june 2014

Inhabitants of a small village in Germany have taken the digital law into their own hands. They laid their own fiber optic cables setting up their own broadband network after being told their village was too small and remote by telephone companies.

When Internet Service Providers and telephone companies told residents of Löwenstedt in northern Germany that they were too small and irrelevant to warrant a decent internet service they decided they would do it themselves.

But the unique geography of Löwenstedt and many other villages in the northern Friesland region means that just 640 people were spread out over 200 hectares and 22 km of cable would need to be laid to connect everyone to broadband.

California Counties Vote To Break Away And Form New State – 3 June 2014

Frustrated with their representation in government, residents in two of California’s northern counties are heading to the polls on Tuesday to decide whether they should consider seceding from the state.

According to Reuters, campaigns in both Del Norte and Tehama counties are underway to convince residents that permanently separating from California is in their best interests. By supporting the measures at the ballot box, supporters would be pushing local officials to continue efforts to combine parts of northern California with parts of southern Oregon into the nation’s 51st state.

The new state would be called Jefferson, as a tribute to Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, who once believed that parts of the Western United States could form a freestanding republic.

Devastation: Ukraine Army Shells Hit Another Hospital – 3 June 2014

The village of Krasny Liman near Slavyansk in the Donetsk region was heavily shelled by the Ukrainian army during Kiev’s military operation Tuesday. Residents were killed and injured as shells hit a hospital, school and train station, locals told RT.

There are reports of killed and injured. Local resident Roman told RT on the phone that a mortar shell hit in the center of Krasny Liman and a passerby was killed. A mortar shell also landed near the train station, he said, adding that a train driver was killed, while some of his colleagues were injured.

Netanyahu ‘Deeply Troubled’ By Obama’s Decision – 3 June 2014

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly criticized the Obama administration for pledging to work with the new Palestinian unity government on Tuesday, saying he is “deeply troubled” by the decision.

Additionally, Netanyahu’s office threatened to levy further sanctions on the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority over its decision to reconcile with Gaza-based Hamas, which has been labeled a terrorist organization by the US, European Union, and Israel.

The remarks came just one day after the US and EU stated they would recognize and continue to fund the Fatah-Hamas governing alliance, despite objections by the Jewish state. As RT reported previously, Netanyahu had urged the world to reject the unity government due to the involvement of Hamas, a group committed to the destruction of Israel.
