Three Killed, Suspects Commit Suicide After Las Vegas Shooting Spree – 8 June 2014

Two Las Vegas police officers and a civilian have been reportedly killed in a shooting spree that started at a pizza restaurant and spilled over to a neighboring Walmart store. Two suspects – a man and a woman – are reportedly down.

The two shooters have committed suicide, according to police. Suspects told shoppers they were part of a “revolution” and wanted a shootout with Metro police force – and had a “suicide pact.” Their bodies were found in the back of the store. Continue reading

Blasts, Gunshots, Fatalities As Armed Militants Storm Pakistan’s Largest Airport – 8 June 2014

RT logoAt least 5 people have reportedly been killed and an airport emergency declared after heavily armed militants stormed the airport in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city. Twelve militants are thought to be inside and fire is seen rising from the scene.

The militants launched grenades and opened fire as they entered Jinnah International Airport. At least three blasts were heard, and an airport emergency has been declared, with flight operations suspended, reported the local Karachi Post.

The five people killed are Airport Security Force (ASF) staff, according to Pakistani news channel Geo.tv. At least ten more were injured. There are also reports of fatalities among the assailants.

Bulgaria Halts Russia’s South Stream Gas Pipeline Project – 8 june 2014

Bulgaria’s prime minister, Plamen Oresharski, has ordered a halt to work on Russia’s South Stream pipeline, on the recommendation of the EU. The decision was announced after his talks with US senators.

“At this time there is a request from the European Commission, after which we’ve suspended the current works, I ordered it,” Oresharski told journalists after meeting with John McCain, Chris Murphy and Ron Johnson during their visit to Bulgaria on Sunday. “Further proceedings will be decided after additional consultations with Brussels.”

McCain, commenting on the situation, said that “Bulgaria should solve the South Stream problems in collaboration with European colleagues,” adding that in the current situation they would want “less Russian involvement” in the project.

Woman Arrested For Filming Police Wins $57,000 Settlement – 8 June 2014

RT logoOne week after a federal appeals court ruled that citizens possess First Amendment rights to film cops, a police department in New Hampshire agreed to settle with a woman who was arrested on wiretapping charges.

In 2010, Carla Gericke was arrested on wiretapping charges for filming her friend being pulled over by the Weare Police during a traffic stop. When ordered by police to turn over her camera, she refused, and was duly charged for disobeying a police officer, obstructing a government official, and “unlawful interception of oral communications.”

According to Massachusetts law, citizens are permitted to record police officers, but only if the cops have been informed that a recording is taking place.
