‘Disgusting’: Anti-Homeless Cages Installed At UK University – 8 October 2014

One of the UK’s most prestigious universities has installed cages over warm air vents, as a way to ward off the city’s homeless sleeping on them.

The cages, which have been placed around the universities campus, completely cover the area surrounding the warm air vents near the college buildings.

Students say they are“disgusted”by the cages, saying that the move shows a lack of love and compassion for the less fortunate.

Russia’s Gazprom Buys Europe’s Biggest Gas Storage Facility – 8 October 2014

Russia will acquire Europe’s largest underground gas storage facility this autumn from Germany’s BASF, continuing the development of its Nord Stream operations. In return, the Germans will get access to large gas reserves in Western Siberia.

Gazprom and the Wintersall subsidiary of German chemical company BASF are putting the final touches to the asset swap, which will see Gazprom getting the facility in the small German town of Rehden, Deutsche Welle reported Wednesday.

The framework for the deal was signed in December 2013 and was approved by the European Commission. Both the EU and Russia say the deal will not be sidetracked by sanctions.

Huge Rise In UK Child Abuse Through Witchcraft And ‘Religious Rituals’ – Police – 8 October 2014

Child abuse linked to witchcraft and other religious beliefs has drastically increased in UK, with police recording a significant spike in cases involving rape, physical assault and neglect of British children.

According to figures released by police on Wednesday, Scotland Yard received 27 allegations of ritual child abuse, with many more cases believed to be hidden by families and guardians.

The cases reported to the Metropolitan Police included children who were swung around and “smacked” in order to “drive out the devil,” while others were said to have raw chillies rubbed into their eyes during exorcism rituals.

UK To Send 750 Troops To Sierra Leone In Ebola Support Effort – 8 October 2014

Prime Minister David Cameron will send 750 troops to the West African state of Sierra Leone in an effort to help contain the Ebola virus and to build a specialist treatment center.

The announcement comes after the PM chaired a meeting of Cobra, the government’s emergency response committee.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Argus, equipped with a 100-bed medical complex,and three Merlin helicopters to aid troop movements will also be sent to West Africa.The Ministry of Defence (MoD) previously announced that 40 soldiers based in Northern Ireland have been deployed to Sierra Leone.

DEA Sued For Setting Up Fake Facebook Account For Arrested Woman – 8 October 2014

The US Drug Enforcement Administration is facing a lawsuit for setting up a fake Facebook account, with photos and other personal data from a New York woman’s cellphone used after her arrest to reveal a cocaine ring’s details.

Sondra Arquiett was arrested in 2010 on charges of possessing cocaine and intent to supply, and the social network’s page was used to trick her associates into disclosing information.

The account showed Arquiett statuses on missing her boyfriend, posing on the hood of a BMW, or with her son and niece. However, it was all the work of DEA Agent Timothy Sinnigen, according to Arquiett’s federal lawsuit.

NYPD Cops Under Criminal Investigation After Punching, Pistol-Whipping Teen Suspect – 8 October 2014

Caught on surveillance camera two New York Police officers are being investigated for punching and using a gun to bash a teenage African-American boy.

The surveillance footage, obtained by “On The Inside” DNAinfo New York, shows a teenager, Kahreem Tribble, being punched and pistol-whipped by two officers. The incident occurred August 29.

The video shows Tribble, 16, running, then stopping, as a police officer approaches him and throws a punch to his face.

The boy raises his hands. The one of the policemen pushes him against a storefront gate when a second officer arrives with his gun pointed at Tribble. Then the officer beats him with the gun around the head before returning it to his holster.
