Brazil, Uruguay Move Away From US Dollar In Trade – 3 December 2014

RT logoBrazil and Uruguay have switched to settling bilateral trade with local currency to stimulate turnover, bypassing the US dollar.

Payments in the Brazilian real and Uruguayan peso started on Monday. The agreement was signed on November 2 by the head of Brazilian Central Bank Alexandro Tombini and his Uruguayan counterpart Alberto Grana. Both countries believe such a move would strengthen trade across Latin America.

“The agreement was the result of long negotiations between the countries belonging to Mercosur [the common market of South American countries – Ed.], as well as the global strategies of BRICS,” RIA quotes Carlos Francisco Teixeira da Silva, Professor of International Relations at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Five million Brazilian farmers have taken on US based biotech company Monsanto through a lawsuit demanding return of about 6.2 billion euros taken as royalties from them. RT – Monsanto – Seeds Of Doubt: Brazilian Farmers Sue Monsanto – 5 June 2012

Five million Brazilian farmers are locked in a lawsuit with US-based biotech giant Monsanto, suing for as much as 6.2 billion euros. They say that the genetic-engineering company has been collecting royalties on crops it unfairly claims as its own.

The farmers claim that Monsanto unfairly collects exorbitant profits every year worldwide on royalties from “renewal” seed harvests. “Renewal” crops are those that have been planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest. While the practice of renewal farming is an ancient one, Monsanto disagrees, demanding royalties from any crop generation produced from its genetically-engineered seed. Because the engineered seed is patented, Monsanto not only charges an initial royalty on the sale of the crop produced, but a continuing 2 per cent royalty on every subsequent crop, even if the farmer is using a later generation of seed. Benjamin Fulford – Reader Update – 13 May 2012

Information from Brazil

I’d like to call your attention to something, I would say “weird” that’s going on here in Brazil. Just recently, right after the BRICS summit in India, our President Dilma started a nasty offensive on Brazilian private banks, urging them for STRONG interest rate cuts. Brazilian state commercial bank Banco do Brasil slashed its rates by 50% on a single day, in an effort to push the private banks to do so. Continue reading
