Federal Cybersecurity Director Convicted Of Child Porn Charges – 29 August 2014

The former acting director of cyber security for the United States Department of Health and Human Services was convicted this week on child pornography charges upon completion of a four-day federal trial in Nebraska.

On Tuesday, the US Department of Justice announced that Timothy DeFoggi, 56, was convicted by a federal jury in District of Nebraska of engaging in a child exploitation enterprise, conspiracy to advertise and distribute child pornography and accessing a computer with intent to view child pornography in connection with his membership in a child pornography, according to a press release published by the DOJ.

Federal prosecutors successfully argued that DeFoggi was a registered member of a website only accessible using the Tor anonymity service and there he “exchanged private messages with other members where he expressed an interest in the violent rape and murder of children” between March and December of 2012. CBS News reported that DeFoggi was the acting director of the Dept. of Health and Human Services when he was detained in May 2013 during a federal crackdown aimed at child pornography sites that existed on the so-called dark web, and a HHS official has since confirmed that he stayed with the office until only seven months ago.

Liberals’ Darling Elizabeth Warren Defends Israeli Attacks On Gaza Schools And Hospitals – 29 August 2014

Israel has the right to shell Palestinian hospitals and schools out of self defense as long as Hamas stores rocket launchers next to them, US Sen. Elizabeth Warren said during a town hall meeting in Massachusetts this week.

Warren, darling du jour of American liberals, defended her vote to send more defense funding to Israel in the middle of its recent fierce offensive on Gaza, saying she believes civilian casualties are the “last thing Israel wants,” according to the Cape Cod Times.

“But when Hamas puts its rocket launchers next to hospitals, next to schools, they’re using their civilian population to protect their military assets. And I believe Israel has a right, at that point, to defend itself,” she said.

UFOs Above Houston Puzzle Texans – 29 August 2014

Sky gazers in the Lone Star State are still scratching their heads as they look for an explanation behind mysterious sets of lights photographed earlier this month over the city of Houston.

Images taken on August 11 during a rain storm and posted to social media have had some Texans for nearly two weeks now trying to identify what select skeptics say is an unidentified flying object, or UFO.

The pictures of what looks like a glowing circular object in the sky over Houston were such a hit on the internet that a local NBC affiliate reached out to experts earlier this month in hopes of taking the “U” out of “UFO.”

But even after approaching the vice president for astronomy at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the station still wasn’t able to identify to mysterious sighting.
