Russian Bear Steps In As American Empire Unravels In Middle East – 5 December 2013

US power in the Middle East is in decline, and American allies in the region are beginning to think of new alternatives to Washington.

The Cold War never ended for America’s leaders. There should be no illusions about it, the United States has strategically worked to contain and weaken both the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. The American strategy in the Middle East and Washington’s hostilities against both the Iranians and the Syrians has been part and parcel of the American line of attack against Moscow and Beijing.

In spite of Washington’s efforts the lines that it had a part in carving in the sands of the volatile Middle East after 1945, tortured by consistent foreign meddling and the bitter rivalries of regional dynasties and powers, are shifting yet again. The winds are erasing the old lines, while regional and global events are drawing new ones to take their places.

Ukraine Gets $8Bn Investment From China – 5 December 2013

Ukrainian President Yanukovych left Kiev in search of foreign cash for his country’s near bankrupt economy, and now he says he’s secured $8 billion in investment from China.

The money has made a timely arrival in cash-strapped Ukraine’s hands, as the economy teeters on default and faces debts over $15 billion. Yanukovych is on a three-day planned working trip to China.

“The documents signed today expand our economic cooperation. We have not yet calculated how much this will make up in terms of money, but we made some calculations earlier and saw that the matter is about some $8 billion in investments coming to the Ukrainian economy,” Yanukovych said after signing a number of bilateral documents in Beijing on Thursday, quoted by Interfax.

Thought ACTA was dead? While the EU Parliament may have strongly rejected it, and even with the EU Commission (who negotiated it) admitting that ACTA is dead, a variety of other countries still did sign on to the agreement. And, now, it appears that with basically no one paying any attention at all, Canada may be about to pass some laws to effectively tie itself to ACTA’s ridiculous requirements. The bill was originally introduced back in March, but was never considered by the Canadian Parliament. However, in late October, it was reintroduced under a new code, C-8, and it looks like it’s moving forward, despite almost no public discussion of it anywhere.

Data Of 465,000 JPMorgan Card Users Breached – 5 December 2013

JP Morgan has warned almost half a million of its pre-paid cash card users their personal information may have been stolen in a hacker attack.

The bank believes critical information like social security numbers; birth dates and email addresses were not affected. Such data is used in identity theft, allowing criminals to open bank accounts and obtain credit cards.

Client information is securely encrypted or scrambled, but the central computer’s log activity temporarily appears in plain text files, and this is what was hacked.

The 465,000 affected UCards are used by corporations to pay salaries and by government agencies to issue tax refunds, unemployment compensation and other benefits.

In a feudal as well as futile attempt to keep wealthy French citizens from leaving the country, France hikes the “Exit Tax” on transfers of wealth to outside of France. They also lower the base and increase the number of things on which the tax applies.

According to a “pay-walled” article on Le Monde of which I can only read a part … “The exit tax was established in 1999, repealed in 2005, then reintroduced in the first Amended Finance Act for 2011. The law was intended to limit the temporary exile of entrepreneurs wanting to sell their stakes in more favorable tax conditions than under domestic law.”
