Gold fell from a three week high today on speculation that very tentative signs of an improving U.S. economy will curb demand for the safe haven. A report yesterday showed U.S. retail sales increased more in March than economists forecast.

Onondaga Nation Seeks International Help In Reclaiming Ancestral Lands From US – 15 April 2014

After failing to get the United States justice system to hear its case asserting that millions of acres of its land was stolen by New York, the Onondaga Native American tribe has filed a petition with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

In a story posted on the tribe’s website, the Onondaga Nation claims the state of New York has stolen 2.5 million acres of land from its ancestral homeland since 1778. The announcement was also made outside the White House, where the tribe presented the original Canandaigua Treaty commissioned by President George Washington as a reminder of the commitment made to treat each other as sovereign nations.

“The failure of the US court system to protect the Onondaga Nation’s ancestral homeland has left the Nation with no choice but to seek assistance for human rights violations from the international community,” said Joe Heath, the tribe’s attorney.

Ron Paul Warns That Bundy Ranch Standoff Isn’t Over Just Yet – 15 April 2014

A heated land dispute between the federal government and a Nevada cattle rancher subsided over the weekend, but longtime lawmaker and former presidential hopeful Ron Paul says tensions might soon worsen once again.

An armed standoff between Cliven Bundy and the United States Bureau of Land Management ended on Saturday with the federal agency agreeing to release around 400 head of cattle it had seized from the Clark County, Nevada rancher. The bureau said Bundy owed roughly $1 million to the government because for the last two decades he failed to pay a fee for letting his cattle graze on federal land, but the rancher insisted that he owed the agency nothing. Supporters soon took up arms and flocked to the Bunch ranch to stand by in support as feds began to seize nearly 1,000 head of cattle, but over the weekend the BLM aborted their attempt to confiscate the animals in order avoid any violent showdown that might have emerged.

Kiev Military Take Positions In Eastern Ukraine As Operation Starts – 15 April 2014

The coup-imposed Ukrainian government has amassed military hardware near the eastern Ukrainian towns refusing to recognize Kiev’s rule, and rallying for the country’s federalization. Videos from the area show tanks, APCs and army helicopters.

Following the Tuesday announcement of an “anti-terrorist operation” by the coup-imposed acting president Aleksandr Turchinov, armored vehicles have been spotted moving and taking positions kilometers away from the eastern Ukrainian city of Slavyansk, where activists seized several administration buildings with the assistance of armed self-defense volunteers.

While Slavyansk is in the Donetsk region, sightings of groups of military vehicles have been reported in the neighboring Kharkov and Lugansk regions, where pro-Russian and anti-Kiev sentiment is high.

Germany First To Deliver European Gas To Ukraine – 15 April 2014

German energy company RWE has started delivering gas to Ukraine as natural resource tension between Kiev and Moscow has been heating up over gas debts and prices.

Deliveries to Naftogaz, Ukraine’s national oil and gas company, are being supplied under a 2012 contract where RWE can deliver up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine per year, dpa-news reported.

Last week the two utilities began talks to renew gas deliveries to Ukraine. RWE said more could be delivered in the coming weeks or months if transport restrictions are resolved.
