5.3 Quake Hits China’s Southwest, At least 21 Injured – 5 April 2014

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake in rural southwest China has injured at least 21 people and damaged over 2,000 houses.

The tremors in seismically unstable Yongshan County in Yunnan Province began at 6.40 am local time on Saturday. Authorities say the epicenter of the quake was 13 km below the ground surface.

“We felt the quake strongly, but it did not last long,” a local resident recounted to Xinhua news agency.

Tokyo Orders Military To Shoot Down Missile Launches By N. Korea – 5 April 2014

Following North Korea’s launching of mid-range ballistic missiles over the sea last Saturday, Japan has promised to use one of its destroyers in the Sea of Japan to shoot down any further possible launches in April that may threaten Japan.

The order to intercept was issued on Thursday by Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera and concerned any launches that may take place from April 3-25, the 82nd anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army, according to The Asahi Shimbun.

The Aegis destroyer Kirishima, carrying Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) interceptors was sent to the Sea of Japan with orders to shoot down anything that ventured into Japanese territory. This is the fifth interception order since 2009. All were issued to counter North Korean missile launches.

There days in the field are getting curiouser and curiouser.  I should have realized when I attempted to read on the 3rd and came up blank just about all day, another shift was underway, but I was too busy complaining to the universe… again!  But even in that, the game is getting interesting.  By the third attempt at connecting that day (the 3rd) I was going to email the remaining three and let them know I am down if they wanted to go ahead and reschedule, or wait and have a chat with me.  For as down as I was, my team got thru and waved their pointer finger at me and said no, connect with everyone, especially this one man I had on my agenda, they needed to get a message to him.  Kewl beans??  Sure enough, they opened my antenna just enough to see this large, looming ET head way across his field and that he really needed to start connecting to this important ally upon his path.  Like I said, y’alls ET friends are getting quit pesky, adamant even!!

Constitutional Collateral Damage: Lawsuit Over American Drone Deaths Tossed Out By US Judge – 5 April 2014

Serious issues regarding constitutional law rose to the surface on Friday as a US federal judge dismissed a court case against the US government by families of three Americans killed in US drone strikes in Yemen.

Judge Rosemary Collyer of the US District Court in Washington ruled that the Americans killed by a US drone strike in Yemen in 2011 had no recourse to the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, as the legal team for the families had argued, because the US military did not make an effort to restrain the three individuals who were killed.

The Fourth Amendment explicitly states that the “right of the people to be secure in their persons…against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.”

Child’s Play: Pakistani 9-Month-Old Baby Accused Of Attempted Murder – 5 April 2014

Mohammad Musa might not be old enough to have taken his first step or sounded his first word, but that has not stopped a Pakistani court from charging the 9-month-old boy with attempted murder.

The infant, along with his father and other family members, were booked for allegedly attacking police and gas company officials with rocks and wooden rods in a working class neighborhood of Lahore on February 1.

Inspector Kashif Muhammad, who was in charge of the alleged crime scene and has since been suspended, wrote in his First Incident Report that it was a case of attempted murder.
